Expressions of interest are invited from ongoing and temporary employees within the NSW Public Sector who wish to be considered for this term role for a period up to 6 months with potential to extend.

About the Role

The Cross-Border Commissioner provides whole-of-government leadership to improve outcomes for cross-border communities, businesses and residents. The role drives interjurisdictional collaboration, shaping strategic agreements, resolving complex cross-border challenges, and representing NSW in high-level forums to advance state priorities. You will work across government and with interstate partners to deliver coordinated, seamless responses to emerging issues affecting border regions.

You will lead the development and implementation of strategic cross-border frameworks, including intergovernmental Memoranda of Understanding, to strengthen alignment and enable integrated service delivery. Acting as a key advocate for border communities, you will elevate priorities across government and ensure emerging issues are proactively identified and addressed through robust, evidence-based advice.

You will provide executive leadership across a geographically dispersed function, driving strong governance, accountability and high performance to deliver consistent outcomes across regions.

You will join The Office of Cross-Border Commissioner within the Delivery and Engagement group serving as a liaison between local communities, governments and agencies to manage the complexities of living and working across borders.

We're Looking For

  • Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-agency strategies and operating models to address systemic issues and deliver government priorities
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration: Proven ability to build and sustain influential relationships across jurisdictions, agencies and communities to enable coordinated service delivery.
  • Influencing & Negotiation: Strong capability to represent organisational interests and lead high-stakes negotiations to resolve complex, sensitive cross-border issues
  • Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving: Ability to distil complex policy challenges, leverage evidence, and develop practical, innovative solutions in dynamic environments
  • Governance & Accountability: Experience embedding strong governance, risk management and assurance practices to support effective and compliant delivery
