CTG is seeking to fill a Contract Site Reliability Engineer opening for our long-standing Fortune 500 client.

Location: Remote candidates may live anywhere in the U.S. 

Type: W2 Contract

Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. or 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. EST

Pay Rate: $54.23 - $70.43 hourly

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required; equivalent professional experience will be considered.

Overview

The Contract Site Reliability Engineer will join a Model Operations and Deployment Engineering team supporting innovative materials science and engineering applications. This role focuses on maintaining, enhancing, and evolving Kubernetes platforms that enable teams to deploy, operate, and scale critical applications across on-premises and cloud environments.

The ideal candidate has strong Linux systems administration expertise and hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Rancher. This position will contribute to platform reliability, infrastructure automation, infrastructure-as-code, GitOps practices, and continuous improvement of operational capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance Kubernetes platforms across on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Provision, upgrade, troubleshoot, and manage the lifecycle of Kubernetes clusters using Rancher.
  • Provide advanced Linux systems administration, including troubleshooting, performance tuning, networking, scripting, and operational support.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code solutions for platform deployment and management.
  • Support GitOps workflows using ArgoCD and Git-based configuration management.
  • Automate operational processes using Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Collaborate with developers, scientists, and infrastructure teams to deliver reliable platform services.
  • Identify opportunities to improve platform resilience, observability, security, automation, and maintainability.
  • Work effectively within Agile environments, including Scrum and Kanban.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of strong Linux systems administration experience.
  • Hands-on experience operating and supporting Kubernetes platforms in production environments.
  • Strong experience managing Kubernetes clusters in on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Required experience with Rancher for Kubernetes cluster management.
  • Strong Linux administration skills, including troubleshooting, scripting, networking, and system performance analysis.
  • Experience implementing infrastructure-as-code solutions for platform provisioning and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with GitOps and deployment automation practices.
  • Experience with ArgoCD and Git version control.
  • Experience working in Agile teams using Scrum, Kanban, or similar methodologies.

Technical Skills

  • Kubernetes: Cluster operations, upgrades, networking, storage, troubleshooting, and workload support.
  • Rancher: Kubernetes cluster management, provisioning, upgrades, and platform operations.
  • Linux: Advanced Linux/Unix systems administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and automation.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Strong IaC experience; Cluster API (CAPI) preferred.
  • GitOps/CI-CD: ArgoCD, Git, configuration management, and deployment automation.
  • Scripting/Automation: Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or other public cloud platforms preferred.
  • Observability: Familiarity with monitoring, logging, alerting, and platform observability tools preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises and public cloud environments.
  • Experience with Kubernetes ecosystem tooling for observability, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and Linux security best practices.
  • Experience supporting scientific research, high-performance computing, or computational science environments.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline development and modern platform automation patterns.

Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.
