WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE JOB:

The American Red Cross is seeking a Content Operations Manager to manage the day-to-day publishing, optimization and flow of content across national American Red Cross communications channels. This is a hands-on content management role that works across multiple publishing and digital asset management systems to ensure content is optimized for audiences, easy to discover, and efficiently shared across teams and platforms. Responsibilities include publishing and optimizing content on RedCross.org, providing operational support to the national photo and video teams, coordinating content during major disaster operations, and identifying opportunities to repurpose and distribute content across channels. This role will be part of the national Content & Channel Strategy Team.
Ideal candidate: We seek candidates with a background in content creation, optimization and management. The ideal candidate has a strong editorial eye and can recognize compelling, high-quality content and opportunities to make it more effective. They should understand what makes content effective across digital channels and be able to optimize content for audience interests, SEO and emerging AI-driven discovery. They are also highly organized, can build and manage clear workflows, and enjoy working and communicating across teams. Because this role works across multiple content management and digital asset management (DAM) systems, experience with CMS or DAM platforms and/or managing a digital asset library is needed. Candidates should be comfortable learning new software, tools and workflows quickly.
Location: This is a virtual position from anywhere in the U.S. working East Coast hours.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (required/minimum qualifications):
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or another related field.
• Experience: Minimum five years of experience in content management, digital publishing, editorial operations, or a related field.
• Experience publishing and managing content within a website content management system (CMS) and/or digital asset management (DAM) system is required.
• Hands-on production experience in photography, videography and/or editorial writing is strongly preferred.
• Expertise in how to optimize digital content for audiences and channels, including SEO, accessibility, and AI-driven search and discoverability.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to coordinate multiple content streams, deadlines, and stakeholders at once.
• Ability to build, document and manage clear workflows and identify opportunities to improve processes.
• Comfortable learning and working across multiple content management systems, digital platforms and project management tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively across editorial, photo, video, social media and other communications teams.
WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE (Preferred Qualifications):
• Candidates who communicate in Spanish.
• Staff or volunteer management experience is not required but preferred.

Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
