Position Overview

Adaptive is seeking a thoughtful computational biologist who is enthusiastic about statistics, genetics, and improving human health. We’re looking for someone who excels at data analysis, statistical modeling, and communicating results to diverse audiences. You will join a highly collaborative Computational Biology group that conducts analyses to support key decisions within the company and for our clients.  Your work will focus on supporting our clinical operations laboratory; verification and validation of process changes, trending analysis, problem finding and troubleshooting, and data driven risk analysis.  Outstanding candidates will have demonstrated the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with wet lab scientists to design experiments and analyze both historical and experimental data
  • Perform quick and thorough analyses of DNA sequencing data to understand outliers, perform QC, make descriptive figures, and address key statistical questions
  • Leads the statistical analysis design process supporting IVD-level product and QC method development studies while adhering to appropriate regulatory guidance, including CLSI and Design Control.
  • Independently writes and contributes to study protocols, data analysis, and final reports in working with other scientists in the group.
  • Facilitates consensus approval for development study protocols, coordinating input from various technical stakeholders to ensure statistical plans meet business needs and CLIA/CAP, ISO and FDA requirements.
  • Utilizes internal processes and tools that support efficient document writing and life-cycle maintenance.
  • Contributes to analysis of NGS immunosequencing data, which will require developing innovative methods for statistical analyses for big complex data generated through the experiments.
  • Present results to diverse audience, including a variety of cross-functional senior leadership, clinicians, and executives.
  • Be a problem solver: communicate well, ask questions, proactively eliminate bottlenecks, and be the person people go to when they want a job done right
  • All other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Computational Biologist I 

REQUIRED 

  • PhD; or 
  • MS/MA degree +8 years of relevant experience 

Preferred 

  • Experience managing, manipulating, interpretating large datasets. 
  • Experience recognizing anomalous and inconsistent data points.  
  • Basic knowledge in at least one scripting language, such as Python or R 
  • Ability to consider outcome when designing analysis and assimilate findings with related dependencies 
  • Communicate project and status updates independently  
  • Experience delivering technical material at department meetings 

Computational Biologist II

REQUIRED 

  • PhD and 2+ years of experience; or 
  • MS/MA degree and 10+ years of relevant experience 

Preferred 

  • Experience managing, manipulating, interpretating large and complex datasets.  
  • Analyzes results by linking data and findings for application to new scientific projects.  
  • Develops an understanding of cross-functional areas and related dependencies.  
  • Works in collaboration with more senior scientists to develop efficient techniques. 
  • Ownership of large project, setting priorities, and keeping cross-functional coworkers apprised of project.  
  • Extensive experience delivering technical material at cross-functional meetings that involve senior leadership and external partners.   
  • May provide guidance to more junior team members
  • Strong knowledge in scripting language, such as Python or R 

Senior Computational Biologist 

REQUIRED

  • PhD and 5+ years of experience; or
  • MS/MA degree and 13+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficiency in at least one common coding language (R, python, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in presenting technical material to diverse audiences

Preferred

  • SME for analyzing biological datasets, especially immunology and oncology.
  • Experience as technical lead on various projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in presenting technical material to multidisciplinary audiences

Computational Biologist I: $104,000 - $156,000

Computational Biologist II: $116,00 - $174,000

Senior Computational Biologist: $132,000 - $198,000

Possible “other compensation” elements to include:

  • equity grant
  • bonus eligible

The base salary range represents a minimum-to-maximum salary (or hourly rate) available to candidates upon extension of offer. Base salary is thoughtfully considered upon offer and is determined through multiple evaluation checks throughout the interview process, including: a candidate’s ability to meet minimum qualifications (skills/experience/education), a candidate’s ability to thoughtfully address preferred qualifications, current market conditions, and internal pay equity. Listed base salary is exclusive of bonus, commission, equity, differential pay, benefits, and other incentives.
