AI Summary

The Community Manager is responsible for moderating and facilitating engagement across global Slack workspaces to foster a supportive environment for women in tech. They also serve as a key source of member insights, translating community feedback into actionable data for marketing and program development.

Summary

The Community Manager owns the day-to-day health of RTC's global community across our two Slack workspaces, serving students and early-career women in tech in 190+ countries. This role is the human face of RTC inside the community: moderating and facilitating conversation, building member-to-member programming, and surfacing member voices across the organization. As Marketing's richest source of on-the-ground member insight, the Community Manager feeds what they hear in the community directly into RTC's positioning, proof, and program decisions. This role sits at the engagement stage of RTC's flywheel: converting new-member growth into an active, connected community that produces the outcomes for women in tech that our partners and funders invest in.

What You’ll Own

Community Health + Engagement

  • Own moderation, facilitation, and community guidelines across both RTC Slack workspaces (Student and Early Career), serving as the primary point of contact for members and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment.
  • Design and run member-to-member community programming: channel activations, discussion series, new-member welcome experiences, and peer-connection formats that turn joiners into participants.
  • Build relationships with members through proactive, personal communication, and set up scaled Slack workflows (automated welcomes, engagement nudges) where personal touch can't reach everyone.
  • Elevate member voices across RTC's affinity groups and identity-based communities, ensuring programming and conversation reflect the full breadth of RTC's membership.
  • Identify and implement Slack integrations and community tools that improve the member experience and streamline moderation and programming.

Member Insights

  • Systematically surface member themes, needs, struggles, and wins from community conversation and share them across the org. The Marketing team is the primary consumer of this insight for positioning and proof; Programs, BD, and Philanthropy also draw on it.
  • Monitor engagement health using community analytics (Common Room, Slack analytics), tracking participation, retention signals, and emerging trends, and report leadership insights.
  • Gather member stories and testimonials in partnership with Content Marketing, flagging standout voices for impact reporting and partner-facing proof.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Lifecycle Marketing on the journeys that move members from joined to active; the Community Manager owns the relationships and surfaces; Lifecycle owns the triggers and channels.
  • Support platform feature launches by carrying launch messaging into the community; positioning and launch plans come from the Marketing team, and adoption messaging is coordinated explicitly between the two roles.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to bridge public community discovery (TikTok, LinkedIn) to private community belonging.

How Success Is Measured

Engagement health, participation, and retention signals: active member rates, member-to-member interaction, program participation, and the quality and usefulness of member insight delivered to internal teams.
