About Lemon.io
Lemon.io is building the autopilot for hiring.
We've replaced the slow, expensive recruiting agency with a platform that delivers vetted, responsive candidates, ready for a final interview. In days, not weeks.
Hundreds of fast-growing companies use Lemon to build their engineering teams, from early-stage startups to enterprises. We're profitable, bootstrapped, and growing at a moment when the legacy recruiting industry is being rewritten in real time.
Here's why this role exists. We have a great story and almost no one telling it. A profitable company helping rewrite a huge industry with AI, and a voice that is still a blank canvas. You'd be the one who decides how Lemon sounds and makes the market pay attention, working directly with the founder, with the freedom that comes from being bootstrapped.
About the position
The Communications Manager will own Lemon's external voice and its distribution.
The goal: make Lemon impossible to ignore in the engineering-hiring conversation. Every day, something from Lemon should be visible where our buyers and candidates already are, until the market treats us as the category leader.
This is a senior IC role, reporting directly to the founder. You'll personally do most of the writing and build systems for distribution.
This is an intensive role. You'll be producing daily and running a content distribution engine that doesn't stop. And while we'd typically expect 4+ years of experience, we're genuinely open to less experienced candidates who can demonstrate exceptional writing and judgment.
Responsibilities:
1. Executive Communications
- Lead the creation and execution of founders' personal brand platforms
- Produce and distribute day-to-day content across founders' channels
- Support founders' earned media: podcasts, panels, op-eds, and speaking opportunities
2. Internal News Scouting and Narrative Development
- Sit in product, customer success, sales, and ops syncs to identify newsworthy stories
- Identify and shape company moments worth telling publicly
- Translate internal milestones, launches, learnings, and customer wins into external content
- Distribute content via social and traditional media.
3. Team Engagement
- Build and support an internal content program that engages employees across functions
- Equip team members to share their work publicly through ready-to-use content and templates
- Coordinate the team's participation in industry conversations across channels
4. Monitoring, Automation
- Build and maintain content and distribution workflows using AI tools
- Set up monitoring for brand mentions, press coverage, and audience growth across channels
- Track, grow and report on key communications metrics quarterly
What we're looking for:
- Native or fluent English with cultural fluency for the US tech audience
- A genuinely strong writer.
- You've been the voice behind someone else's posts.
- Track record telling the story of a company, a product, or a movement
- Background in technology, B2B software, talent, recruiting, dev tools, or adjacent industries.
- You’re deeply immersed in the world of independent media: Substackers, podcasters, influencers on X or LinkedIn.
- AI is already part of how you work.
- Comfortable operating in areas of genuine uncertainty.
- Results-oriented, with a bias toward action and impact.
- Want to be part of a small, fast-paced, and impactful team.
What success looks like in the first 4 weeks:
- You've built systems to capture content from our team and product, and to manufacture news.
- You've launched an amplification program by the team and outside voices, so every message travels.
- A repurposing workflow exists: one idea becomes a post, a thread, a clip, a newsletter line, without starting over each time.
- You've identified the 3 to 5 narratives that everyone will repeat.
- You've identified a few internal voices and enabled them to post regularly, with systems that feed them content ideas.
- By week 4, the founder's social posts go out 4 to 5 times a week.
- Baseline metrics captured, so growth is measurable from a known starting point.
Application Process
To apply, send us:
- Three writing samples that show range. At least one should be in a voice that isn't yours: something you ghost-wrote for an executive, a founder, or another public-facing operator.
- A short note (200 words or fewer) telling us why this role and what you'd want to ship in your first 90 days. The point isn't to summarize your resume. It's to give us a sense of how you think and what you'd actually do.
What to expect:
- Application review within 7 days
- 45-minute call with the hiring team
- Paid trial project (up to 10 hours)
- Final 60-minute conversation with the founder
- Reference checks and offer
We aim to move from application to offer within 3-4 weeks.
