Job Description Summary

In this position, you will be an integral part of the APAC Field Operations department, providing technical leadership and support for project delivery within the ANZ region. As a functional leader and subject matter expert in WTG Commissioning, you will implement commissioning processes and tools while overseeing commissioning readiness and operational efficiency across ANZ projects. You will also coordinate the training of technical teams and provide direct leadership to Project Commissioners and leads, overseeing their training and performance monitoring. This role requires you to stay well-versed in project schedules and delivery details to provide effective support to site construction and project managers in areas such as team management, ensuring excellence in EHS performance, managing engineering escalations and PAC cases, providing external customer support, and maintaining overall technical oversight.

It is imperative that you remain on-site during critical commissioning and Hold Point testing or to assist with reviewing safety-critical issues; consequently, this role requires travel between projects, with occasional presence in the Melbourne office. Moreover, you will contribute to commissioning and training efforts within the broader APAC region as needed, collaborating with the Asia Commissioning Manager and Field Operations Leader, which may necessitate occasional international travel.

The primary role location is flexible and can be based in any state on the East Coast (VIC, NSW, QLD or SA).

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Commissioners that you have had direct support in hiring into the business across multiple projects and provide clear direction, training, and mentorship to ensure efficient and safe Commissioning processes.
  • Collaborate with Field Ops Leader, Project teams, and other stakeholders to develop detailed commissioning plans, schedules, DORs, and resource allocation strategies.
  • Conduct thorough site assessments to identify potential challenges and develop solutions to optimize commissioning processes and turbine access.
  • Oversee/monitor multiple sites on the commissioning of WTGs, ensuring compliance with GE specifications, safety protocols, and industry standards.
  • Perform quality control inspections at sites to verify the correctness and integrity of commissioning activities and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Support teams to troubleshoot technical issues and provide real-time solutions to minimize downtime and project delays.
  • Monitor and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, LOTO, addressing any safety concerns promptly to prevent accidents and incidents. Monitor KPIs and metrics.
  • Accountable to monitor accurate documentation of Commissioning activities, including progress reports, DDCR, Dpro, technical specifications, and any deviations from the original plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to coordinate logistics, equipment mobilization if required, and site preparation activities.
  • Provide technical expertise during commissioning and testing phases to ensure proper functionality and performance of installed wind turbines.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices related to wind turbine commissioning.
  • Accountable for site technical teams’ adherence to Document reporting and archive all the required quality and as built documentation using GE’s various software management tools and databases.
  • Reading, interpreting, and understanding work instructions and relaying information and key points to commissioning teams.
  • Ensure commissioners are appropriately trained and can perform duties at the site level- in accordance with GE standards and keep records of training undertaken.
  • Client facing role when required- must be able to use effective communication to support desired outcomes.
  • Support in conflict resolution as required.
  • Assist site commissioning teams in delivering the project within budget and stipulated timelines.
  • Conduct site audits as directed by the Field Operations Leader.
  • Ensure team personnel both adhere to and Enforce GE EHS and security policies.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in wind turbine Commissioning, with a proven track record of successful project completions and leadership
  • 4+ years demonstrated Supervisory experience- managing a team of 5 or more direct staff.
  • In-depth knowledge of wind turbine technology, components, and commissioning processes.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Safety-focused mindset with a comprehensive understanding of industry safety standards and protocols.
  • Flexibility to travel and work on-site at various project locations as required.
  • Must have intermediate level in computer skills (MS OFFICE).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Relevant certifications in wind energy, safety, or project management are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Industry recognized Qualification in, Electrical Engineering, Australian Electrical Trade certificate or 5+ years experience in lead role.
  • Current/Valid Electrical License recognized in Australia.
  • Demonstrated High Voltage (HV) Switching experience and/or qualification.
  • Relevant Product & EHS training certifications.
  • Standard industry safety training (GWO)
  • Valid Australian Driver’s License

Desired Characteristics

  • Previous GE WTG experience desirable.
