Posit is hiring a Commercial Counsel to join its growing legal team as its second lawyer. This is a foundational role with broad exposure across commercial contracting, product support, privacy, AI, and employment matters. The position offers meaningful ownership and the opportunity to help design scalable legal processes within a distributed, mission-driven organization.

In this role, you’ll lead negotiation and execution of commercial agreements, including software licenses, SaaS contracts, NDAs, SOWs, and professional services agreements. You’ll serve as the primary legal partner to the Sales organization, manage the commercial contract queue, and continuously improve templates, workflows, and AI-enabled processes to increase efficiency and reduce friction in deal cycles.

Beyond contracting, you’ll support corporate governance matters, assist with board materials and internal policies, and partner with People Operations on U.S. and international employment issues. You’ll work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Customer Success, Finance, and Sales—providing pragmatic guidance that balances legal risk with customer experience and company growth.

The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of legal experience (law firm and/or in-house), strong commercial contracting expertise in software or SaaS environments, and comfort operating in a small, high-ownership team. Interest in AI-enabled legal workflows and technical literacy in software development environments are strong advantages. This role is well-suited for a business-minded attorney who thrives in collaborative, entrepreneurial settings and is excited to help build legal from the ground up.
