Job Description

Opportunity at a Glance
We are interested in developing long-term relationships with superior instructors who have high professional standards, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and a commitment to providing the finest practitioner-focused education. We are seeking primarily Industry Professionals to share their knowledge and experience with undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of fields. COMM-277 is delivered fully online through discussions and assignments, with opportunities to incorporate live lectures-created videos to enhance the learning experience. Commitment is on a course-by-course basis.

COMM-277:  Interpersonal Communication

This course explores ways in which people interact verbally and nonverbally and teaches basic principles of interpersonal communication including perception, self-concept, persuasive communication, nonverbal communication, semantics, roles and norms and communication barriers. Activities include participating in groups, pairs and interactive communication situations.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students with active learning.
  • Prepares all courses in a timely manner, lists two office hours per week through NAVIGATE.
  • Announcements: Post weekly announcements for students including two video announcements.
  • Discussions: Participates at least 4 day per week, one weekend day, with a minimum of 10 posts per discussion board.
  • Grading: Grades all discussions by Tuesday following the original due date.
  • Grades all assignments by Sunday following the original due date.
  • Submits all final grades by stated due date.
  • Attends live or listen to general education faculty forum and course collaborative meetings per session.
  • Performs student outreach through appropriate channels. Document student notes, outreach and outcomes in NAV360.
  • Collaborates with faculty and course lead, responds to course associate dean. Senior manager within 24 hours.
  • Follows all policies as outlined in virtual course observation document.

Qualifications

  • A Master or PhD in Speech, Communications, Debate, Rhetoric, or Intercultural Communications. Studies with 18+ earned graduate credit hours directly in coursework
    • This candidate may have an Ed.D. with 18+ graduate credit hours in Interpersonal Communication or Communication
    • Not specifically looking for someone with an English background
  • Are able to provide official transcripts for all earned degrees from a regionally accredited institution and/or, for degrees earned outside of the US, a course-by-course US equivalency evaluation from a NACES-approved evaluator
  • Prior higher education teaching experience is required
    • More specifically looking for an individual with a record of teaching students in their first-year experience and achieving student success
  • Solid subject matter expertise and outstanding communication skills
  • Prior experience with course redevelopment is preferred and highly valued
  • Excellent motivational and instructional skills to be effective in a non-traditional environment
  • Must be able to work in a collegial manner and facilitate the efforts of diverse groups
  • Knowledge of MS office products
  • Have exceptional subject matter expertise as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Are eager to serve students and colleagues with passion, respect and care
  • Operate with a sense of responsibility and purpose with the desire to enrich colleagues, students and the broader community
  • Have a strong work ethic, learn from mistakes, build positive spirit and always look for a better way
  • Put the team first, appreciate diverse points of view, assume positive intent, collaborate and communicate openly

Additional Information

Chamberlain Visiting Professor Position - Online:
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected compensation rate for this position is between $715/Earned Credit Hour to $1,950/Earned Credit Hour, depending on the candidate’s education and experience.

Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as type of course taught; experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
