Job Description

The Software Engineer Lead Consultant architects and designs their digital products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. They apply a systematic application of scientific and technological knowledge, methods, and experience to the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software. They own and manage running their application in production, and ultimately becomes accountable for the success of their digital products through achieving KPIs.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the product manager.
• Participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups.
• Participates in retrospectives, demonstrating and encouraging each participant to provide feedback with empathy.
• Coaches the team and leads daily practices of using paired programming and test-driven development in writing software and building products.
• Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices.
• Provides system design and architecture leadership, collaborating with other members of the team and achieving joint ownership of the team’s decisions.
• Participates in observing and monitoring key systems, analyzing logs and traces.
• Manages and leads responses to production outages or errors.

Required Skills:

• Designing and developing REST APIs using Java Spring Boot, including tooling for documentation, versioning, service discovery/registration, testing and management.
• Hands on experience making architectural decisions, designing, and delivering large-scale distributed systems in cloud environments, including microservices architectures.
• Experience in backend development design and implementation, database (SQL NoSQL, caching) and event-driven systems (e.g., Kafka).
• Deep experience with TDD and writing meaningful unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for front to back coverage.
• Experience in web and API security including authentication, authorization, OAuth, OWASP, OpenID, and SAML.
• Experience using distributed version control systems (Git/GitHub), artifact management systems, build and packaging systems (maven, gradle, npm, artifactory, etc.) and Jenkins or similar CI/CD tools.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Experience working in an XP/Agile environment, including pairing.
• Experience with problem-solving; e.g., analyzing performance bottlenecks, next-level resiliency, messaging pitfalls.
• Experience with production support in a large-scale distributed environment, using tools like Splunk, Datadog, and CloudWatch; sharing an on-call rotation is likely.

Preferred Skills:

• Python, including AWS Lambda.
• Enterprise routing and load balancing, including AWS API Gateway.
• Experience in the insurance domain, or other finance-critical domains.
• Experience with payments or payment gateways.

Experience

• 5 or more years of experience (Preferred).
• Demonstrated Technical Leadership.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 100,000.00 - 170,500.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The candidate(s) offered this position will be required to submit to a background investigation.
