Clinical Director (CD) – Job Description Template
Position Summary
The Clinical Director (CD) provides enterprise clinical quality leadership across RSS clinical services while serving as a peer member of the RSS leadership team. Responsible for clinical quality systems, chart audits, clinical standards, onboarding, training, documentation quality, policy adherence, clinical risk management, and service excellence.
Reports To
CEO (or current designated executive leader).
Leadership Relationships
Functions collaboratively alongside RSS leadership and managers, HR leadership, discipline‑specific supervisors, clinical operations leadership, and specialty program leaders. Operates within a peer‑leadership model and does not replace distributed supervision or parallel management functions.
Core Responsibilities
Clinical quality oversight; chart audits and documentation review; clinical standards and policy compliance; onboarding leadership; workforce development and training; quality improvement initiatives; corrective coaching related to quality concerns; service quality oversight; participation in clinician recruitment and selection; collaboration with discipline‑specific supervisors and leadership partners. Takes disciplinary action in coordination with HR where necessary.
Distributed Supervision Model
The CD maintains organization‑wide clinical quality authority but does not replace discipline‑specific licensure supervision. Licensure supervision remains distributed among appropriately credentialed supervisors according to licensure, board requirements, specialty area, scope of practice, and organizational assignment.
Hiring & Onboarding
Participates in clinician recruitment and selection consistent with RSS hiring procedures. Provides leadership for onboarding, orientation to clinical standards, documentation expectations, quality systems, policies and procedures, embedded service expectations, EMR/Harvest/Insynch coordination, and early clinician integration and competency development.
Qualifications
Active clinical licensure appropriate to role requirements; advanced clinical leadership experience preferred; demonstrated experience in quality assurance, clinical documentation, training, onboarding, workforce development, and clinical systems leadership preferred.
