The Opportunity

We’re looking for a skilled, dynamic Climate and Experiences Reporter to join Skift, the world's leading travel media company. This role is ideal for an independent, highly organized journalist who can tackle two of the most consequential forces reshaping travel: the climate crisis and the rapidly evolving experiences economy. You will set your own daily agenda, consistently meet tight deadlines, and thrive in a fully distributed environment. We are actively looking for candidates based in the UK (remote anywhere in-country).

Some of What You’ll Do

Daily Reporting & Content Creation

• Break news and write compelling features across both beats, covering everything from climate policy and sustainability regulation to the tours, activities, and operators reshaping experiential travel.
• Create dynamic audio and video content that brings the climate and experiences beats to life for Skift's global audience.

Accountability & Industry Analysis

• Hold the travel industry accountable on sustainability by interrogating corporate commitments, identifying greenwashing, and spotlighting the business models and strategies that are genuinely working.
• Map the complex experiences landscape, identifying key stakeholders, tracking emerging disruptors, and analyzing how regional specialists differentiate themselves in a crowded market.
• Interview thought leaders, scientists, policymakers, and operators, using exceptional judgment to know exactly which sources matter for which story.

Collaboration & Event Engagement

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure your coverage aligns seamlessly with Skift's broader editorial objectives.
• Represent Skift as an industry expert—you will be comfortable on camera, on stage, and interviewing top voices at live events.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven Journalistic Chops: A Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, coupled with solid experience as a business reporter in a fast-paced newsroom or dynamic media environment.
• Beat Expertise: A strong, in-depth understanding of the travel experiences sector (tours, activities, travel agency dynamics) and a proven track record in solutions-based climate journalism.
• Analytical Rigor: Excellent research, analytical, and interviewing skills, with the ability to connect the dots and identify emerging trends in the industry.
• Multimedia & Stage Presence: Comfort and proficiency in creating audio/video content, utilizing social media platforms, and appearing on camera, on stage, or interviewing at live events.
• Agility & Independence: Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail, allowing you to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and work independently with little to no supervision.
• Seamless Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, ensuring you work well asynchronously as a team player with colleagues across all global time zones.

• Velocity & Quality: Consistent, on-time delivery of breaking news, deep-dive features, and multimedia content across both the climate and experiences beats.
• Editorial Impact: Successful mapping of the experiences landscape and the production of solutions-based climate reporting that provides our audience with exclusive, actionable insights.
• Industry Accountability: The ability to effectively interrogate corporate commitments, cut through greenwashing, and highlight genuine sustainability strategies.
• Collaboration & Engagement: Proactive communication, seamless asynchronous teamwork, and strong, confident representation of the Skift brand at live events and in multimedia formats.
