Civil Senior Designer - Renewables

The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for a Civil Senior Designer - Renewables role. This position may be based in one of Ulteig’s offices, fully remote, or in a hybrid work arrangement. This senior technical design position will support utility-scale solar, wind, and/or energy storage projects within a multidisciplinary consulting engineering environment. The selected candidate will collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, survey, project management, and client teams to provide technical direction and develop practical, coordinated, and constructible civil design solutions that support projects from development through construction.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as Civil Design Lead or Discipline Lead when assigned, providing technical direction without direct supervisory responsibility.
• Lead civil design activities for complex or multiple utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects.
• Develop and coordinate civil construction drawing packages, including site layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater, access roads, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and earthwork quantities.
• Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to develop and maintain surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, grading models, utility layouts, and other project design elements.
• Translate engineering concepts, design criteria, calculations, surveys, and technical information into coordinated and constructible design documents.
• Lead internal and client-facing design coordination meetings and clearly communicate design decisions, risks, conflicts, and recommended solutions.
• Complete complex design work while coordinating and delegating appropriate portions of the work to designers, technicians, and junior engineers.
• Review design models, calculations, redlines, shop drawings, revisions, and deliverables for accuracy, consistency, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
• Apply quality-control procedures, checklists, CADD standards, and project requirements while taking ownership of personal, project, and discipline-level design quality.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, surveyors, contractors, and other disciplines to identify and resolve design conflicts early.
• Help project teams meet design schedules and budgets by planning work, monitoring progress, and improving design efficiency.
• Work directly with multiple clients to understand project needs, communicate technical information, and support responsive project delivery.
• Mentor and coach designers, technicians, and junior engineers on Civil 3D, design practices, quality expectations, constructability, and efficient workflows.
• Develop and improve CADD standards, details, templates, tools, procedures, and workflows, and share specialized knowledge through training, presentations, mentoring, or technical content.

What We Expect from You

• An associate or technical degree in civil engineering technology, drafting, design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of progressive education and relevant experience.
• Typically 10 or more years of progressive civil design experience in consulting engineering, EPC, land development, or infrastructure environment.
• Meaningful experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy, utility infrastructure, or other large-scale site-development projects.
• Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including surfaces, grading, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, plan production, and quantity calculations.
• Demonstrated experience with large-scale site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater, access roads, utilities, erosion and sediment control, earthwork, and construction plan preparation.
• Experience leading civil design packages and coordinating the work of other designers, technicians, or junior engineers.
• Ability to interpret surveys, design criteria, engineering calculations, geotechnical information, hydrology and hydraulic information, specifications, and applicable permitting requirements.
• Experience reviewing design deliverables for accuracy, consistency, constructability, graphical quality, and compliance with project requirements and CADD standards.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and technical communication skills, with the ability to manage priorities and deliver quality work across multiple projects.
• Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with clients, engineers, project managers, surveyors, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness and ability to mentor and develop less-experienced team members and contribute to design standards and continuous improvement.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and permanent authorization to work in the United States.

Target Base Compensation Range: $49.50-$67.00* Hourly
