Join an organization at the forefront of improving health by transforming care through Centering® groups
Chief Executive Officer, Fractional
General Description
Centering Healthcare Institute (“CHI”) is a non-profit organization that collaborates with healthcare providers across all sectors to transform healthcare. Our mission is to champion and advance the evidence-based Centering group model of care to transform how healthcare is practiced and experienced, empowering healthcare providers and patients to improve health outcomes. We empower patients, strengthen patient-provider relationships, and build communities through three main components: health assessment, interactive learning, and community building.
We are dedicated to creating a future where the risk of preterm birth, the inequities faced by Black women in pregnancy-related outcomes, and the disparities in early childhood are significantly reduced—ensuring that every child has the potential to enjoy better life chances, social and economic opportunities, and overall well-being. With over two decades of experience as the leading resource for group care, we have developed and sustained the Centering model in nearly 500 practice sites and some of the largest health systems in the world.
The Opportunity
Centering Healthcare Institute (CHI) stands at a defining moment in its evolution and in the national movement for maternal and reproductive health equity. With expanding partnerships, rising public and policy attention to group prenatal care, and growing opportunities to shape systems of care, CHI is poised to amplify its national impact and redefine how communities experience health and belonging.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be a mission-driven and visionary leader who brings both strategic foresight and a deep commitment to CHI’s purpose. More than a steward of operations, the CEO will be a systems thinker and catalyst—someone who thrives in complexity, leads with courage and curiosity, and builds enduring partnerships rooted in trust and shared accountability.
CHI seeks a transformative governance leader who can inspire alignment across a distributed and diverse organization; cultivate relationships with funders, health systems, and policymakers; and guide CHI’s evolution into a more visible, connected, and resilient national platform for change. This leader will be ambitious yet grounded, collaborative yet decisive—balancing strategy with humanity and vision with execution.
The CEO will shape and advance CHI’s overall strategy and organizational structure, partnering closely with a high-performing executive leadership team. The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and serves as its key partner in governance, strategy, and sustainability.
This role offers a rare opportunity to define the future of CHI, architecting a thriving, future-ready organization that drives systemic impact in maternal and reproductive health. The CEO will work in close partnership with the Board, staff, and external allies to ensure that CHI’s mission, culture, and strategy are powerfully aligned for the years ahead.
Candidate Profile
The next CEO of CHI will be a strategic and values-rooted systems leader who brings both heart and vision to the role. Rather than solely executing plans, this leader will define the horizon, cultivate shared purpose, mobilize partners, and shape the future of equitable care through influence, insight, and innovation. The CEO will guide the organization through growth and systems change, anchoring CHI’s mission in measurable outcomes for families and communities.
The role oversees CHI’s strategic direction, organizational health, partnerships, financial sustainability, and influence across the healthcare landscape. Working closely with the Board of Directors and Executive Team, the CEO will ensure CHI’s programs, operations, and governance are aligned with a long-term vision for scale, systems impact, and sustainable excellence.
The CEO will steward CHI through its next phase of growth, optimizing infrastructure, ensuring operational alignment with mission and strategy, and empowering leaders across the organization to thrive. This includes championing continuous improvement and change management across systems, partnerships, and culture to position CHI as a model for equity centered healthcare innovation.
As the organization’s chief steward, the CEO will ensure that CHI’s operations, programs, and governance adhere to the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and performance. They will represent CHI nationally, building trust, visibility, and influence with policymakers, funders, health systems, and community partners.
As a member of and leader for the Executive Team, the CEO will foster collaboration, promote excellence, and strengthen the organization’s capacity for innovation, advocacy, and sustained impact. Reporting to the CEO is the Chief Financial Officer, Chief External Engagement/Chief of Philanthropy Officer, Chief Operating Officer/Chief People & Culture Officer.
The strategic leader stepping into this role has an opportunity to set a clear vision and direction for CHI’s future, guiding the organization into a new era of relevance, reach, and systems-level influence.
