Overview 

The Business Intelligence Owner is accountable for the organization's reporting and analytics function, ensuring business leaders have accurate, actionable, and timely information to make informed decisions. This role owns the complete reporting lifecycle—from identifying business needs and gathering requirements to designing, developing, validating, deploying, and continuously improving reporting solutions. 

Beyond fulfilling reporting requests, this role proactively identifies opportunities to leverage data, uncover trends, improve operational visibility, and deliver insights that create measurable value across the organization. The Business Intelligence Owner serves as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and technical systems, translating questions into meaningful analytics and ensuring reporting remains aligned with organizational priorities. 
 

Primary Accountabilities 

Own the Reporting & Analytics Function 

  • Establish standards for reporting, dashboards, metrics, and data visualization. 

  • Ensure reporting solutions align with business objectives. 

  • Eliminate redundant, outdated, or low-value reports. 

  • Drive continuous improvement of reporting capabilities. 

Business Partnership & Requirements 

  • Meet with stakeholders to understand business objectives and operational challenges. 

  • Translate business questions into reporting and analytical requirements. 

  • Recommend reporting solutions that best address business needs. 

  • Challenge assumptions and propose better ways to answer business questions through data. 

  • Serve as the trusted advisor for reporting and analytics across the organization. 

Report & Dashboard Development 

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain reports and dashboards. 

  • Write SQL queries and reporting logic. 

  • Build new datasets, KPIs, and calculated metrics. 

  • Validate data accuracy and ensure report integrity. 

  • Optimize performance and usability of reporting solutions. 

  • Maintain technical documentation for reports and data definitions. 

Analytics & Business Insight 

  • Proactively analyze organizational data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. 

  • Develop new analytics that improve decision-making. 

  • Identify opportunities for automation or operational improvements through reporting. 

  • Create executive-level dashboards and performance scorecards. 

  • Deliver actionable insights rather than simply presenting data. 

Adoption & Continuous Improvement 

  • Train users on reporting capabilities. 

  • Gather user feedback and continuously improve reports. 

  • Monitor report adoption and usefulness. 

  • Ensure reporting remains relevant as business needs evolve. 

  • Promote self-service analytics where appropriate. 

Responsibilities 

  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of reporting initiatives. 

  • Prioritize reporting work based on organizational value. 

  • Gather and document reporting requirements. 

  • Design reporting solutions. 

  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards. 

  • Validate data quality and reporting accuracy. 

  • Define KPIs and business metrics. 

  • Perform exploratory data analysis. 

  • Present findings and recommendations to leadership. 

  • Maintain reporting documentation and standards. 

  • Identify opportunities for new analytics. 

  • Support strategic initiatives through data-driven insights. 

  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, Finance, Support, and Executive Leadership.

  • Business leaders trust the organization's reporting. 

  • Reports answer business questions rather than simply display data. 

  • Reporting requests are delivered accurately and on time. 

  • Manual reporting effort decreases. 

  • Stakeholders regularly use dashboards to make decisions.

  • Reporting standards remain consistent across the organization. 

  • Data quality issues are quickly identified and resolved. 

  • Reporting drives measurable operational improvements.
