Johnson Mark PC is seeking an Arizona-licensed attorney to join our established litigation team as our primary in-state attorney for court appearances and trials. This is a hands-on position focused on representing the firm’s clients at required in-person proceedings while helping manage and advance a high volume of Arizona litigation matters.

We are looking for a dependable attorney who can take ownership of assigned matters, work within established processes, appear at hearings and trials, communicate professionally, and consistently move cases forward.

You do not need to be a highly experienced litigator to succeed in this role. We have established processes, technology, and support systems designed to help attorneys manage their caseload and be successful.

The ideal candidate is someone who is licensed, reliable, organized, willing to learn, comfortable appearing in court, and motivated to get cases across the finish line.

Position Summary

The Arizona Attorney will work with our existing litigation team to manage Arizona matters and move cases through the litigation process toward resolution. A primary responsibility of this position will be attending required in-person hearings, trials, and other court proceedings throughout Arizona.

The firm has an additional attorney who assists with Arizona matters and handles proceedings where virtual appearances are permitted. This position will provide the dedicated in-state presence necessary for proceedings requiring personal appearance.

This position provides an opportunity for an attorney to develop and apply practical litigation and courtroom skills while working within a supportive legal operations environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the firm’s primary in-state attorney for required in-person hearings, trials, and other court proceedings throughout Arizona.
  • Manage Arizona litigation matters, ensuring cases, deadlines, hearings, trials, and required actions are handled timely and effectively.
  • Review cases, identify appropriate next steps, and work with the firm’s other Arizona attorney and legal support staff to keep matters moving toward resolution.
  • Prepare for and attend in-person and remote Arizona court hearings, trials, and other proceedings.
  • Assist with pleadings, motions, discovery, legal research, trial preparation, and other litigation activities.
  • Communicate professionally and promptly with courts, opposing counsel, witnesses, and internal teams.
  • Evaluate matters and assist with settlement negotiations and other resolution strategies within established guidelines.
  • Identify issues requiring additional attention or escalation and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • Follow established processes and workflows while working collaboratively with attorneys, legal support, and legal operations teams.
  • Travel throughout Arizona as reasonably necessary to provide required court coverage.

Requirements

Qualifications — Required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active Arizona law license and membership in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona.
  • Must reside in Arizona or be willing to relocate to Arizona before beginning employment.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly attend in-person hearings, trials, and other court proceedings throughout Arizona.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Arizona as required by the court calendar.
  • Clear and effective verbal communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professional and ethical judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and follow established processes.

Qualifications Preferred — But Not Required

  • Prior civil litigation or trial experience.
  • Experience appearing in Arizona courts.
  • Experience with motions, discovery, hearings, trials, or settlement negotiations.
  • Experience managing a litigation caseload.
  • Experience using legal case-management systems or other legal technology.
  • Experience in creditor-rights, collections, consumer-finance, or other high-volume litigation.
  • Willingness to obtain licensure in additional states, with associated costs covered by the firm.

We encourage attorneys at various stages of their careers to apply. We are more interested in finding someone who is dependable, willing to learn, comfortable appearing in court, and ready to contribute than someone who simply has the longest résumé.
