AI Summary

Lead and execute cloud workload migrations across AWS and Azure platforms for professional services clients. This includes assessing legacy environments, designing migration architectures, and producing technical documentation like runbooks.

This is a fully remote position open to independent contractors based in Canada.

Overview

Anovia is seeking an experienced AWS/Azure Migration Consultant on an independent contractor basis to support cloud migration engagements on behalf of our Professional Services clients. Working within a distributed team, this consultant will lead and execute workload migrations, assess existing infrastructure, and deliver cloud-native solutions that meet client requirements for performance, security, and scalability. Day-to-day work spans architecture planning, hands-on migration execution, stakeholder communication, and technical documentation.

The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on experience with AWS and Azure migration tooling, a strong grasp of cloud architecture best practices, and the ability to work independently in a client-facing engagement model. You communicate clearly with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, manage your own workload with minimal oversight, and adapt readily to shifting project priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Assess client on-premises or legacy cloud environments to identify migration candidates and establish technical requirements.
  • Design and implement migration architectures across AWS and Azure platforms, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and re-architecture approaches.
  • Execute workload migrations using native cloud tooling (AWS Migration Hub, Azure Migrate, and related services).
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to define scope, timelines, and acceptance criteria for migration deliverables.
  • Produce technical documentation including migration runbooks, architecture diagrams, and post-migration validation reports.
  • Identify and remediate performance, security, or cost issues discovered during and after migration activities.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience in cloud engineering or architecture, with a focus on AWS and/or Azure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or executing cloud migration projects from scoping through cutover.
  • Proficiency with AWS and Azure migration tooling (AWS Migration Hub, AWS DMS, Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery).
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals in cloud environments (VPCs, VNets, DNS, VPN, ExpressRoute/Direct Connect).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills; able to present findings and recommendations to client stakeholders.
  • Must be based in Canada and able to contract directly with a Canadian entity.
  • Availability to take on engagements on an on-demand basis with variable commitment levels.

Nice to Have

Candidates with experience in any of the following areas will be given preference:

  • Active AWS or Azure certifications (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or equivalent).
  • Experience with containerization and Kubernetes on managed cloud services (EKS, AKS).
  • Familiarity with FinOps practices and cloud cost optimization strategies.
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud and multi-cloud architectures.
  • Experience working in a managed services or consulting engagement model.
