Automation QA Engineer - Senior

Purpose of the role:

To improve the reliability and coverage of API testing by maintaining and expanding automated tests, supporting the transition from Java tests to Gonkey, and investigating failures across services. The role also contributes to testing frameworks and helps the team use AI tools in its daily QA work.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain automated API tests.

• Take part in the team's transition to Gonkey: migrate existing Java tests and help shape new testing approaches.

• Support the existing Java test suite and help reduce accumulated test coverage debt.

• Enhance and expand testing frameworks with new features and capabilities.

• Use AI tools in day-to-day work: test generation from specs, log and failure analysis, and code review support.

• Actively participate in code reviews across QA automation teams.

• Ensure adherence to the testing pyramid at all levels.

• Collaborate with DEV, QA, and Analytics within a cross-functional team.

• Analyze daily automated test runs and triage failures.

Required Experience:

• 4+ years of experience in test automation with Java, with a focus on API testing.

• Solid understanding of REST/HTTP, JSON, and API contract testing.

• Hands-on experience with k8s, Docker, PostgreSQL (confident SQL), and any message broker.

• Knowledge of Maven, TestNG, WireMock, and Jackson.

• Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar).

• Strong knowledge of programming patterns and OOP principles.

• Test design skills: ability to build coverage from requirements and specs, not just automate existing cases.

• Ability to investigate failures across services using logs, metrics, and DB.

• Practical experience with AI-assisted development (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar) for test generation, code, and log analysis.

• Willingness to adopt new testing tools, including declarative YAML-based API testing (Gonkey).

• At least Intermediate level of English.

• Native-level Russian.

Nice to have:

• Experience in fintech or payment systems (payment flows, callbacks, idempotency, reconciliation).

• Experience with declarative API testing tools.

• Go (a strong plus).

• Familiarity with reporting systems (we use ReportPortal).

• Experience with TypeScript and Playwright.

• Experience building AI-based tooling or agents for QA tasks.
