Working within a highly matrixed environment, the Associate Medical Director collaborates broadly across Global Medical Affairs functions, including Medical Communications, Field Medical, Medical Education, Evidence Generation, and Medical Operations, as well as with key internal and external stakeholders. Through these partnerships, the individual helps ensure alignment of medical strategy, generation of actionable insights, and successful execution of medical objectives.

 

The Associate Medical Director also serves as a scientific and therapeutic area resource for colleagues and external stakeholders, contributing expertise that supports evidence-based decision-making and advances franchise goals.

 

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Medical Planning

  • Contribute to the development and execution of global medical affairs strategies and tactical plans for assigned assets and indications.
  • Support annual medical planning and contribute to the development of measurable medical objectives, key initiatives, and success metrics for assigned assets.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and synthesize scientific, clinical, and competitive insights to inform medical strategy and decision-making.
  • Support lifecycle management activities, including launch readiness and indication expansion planning.

Evidence Generation

  • Support identification of evidence gaps and the prioritization of evidence generation opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of evidence generation plans aligned with asset strategy.Evaluate and support opportunities for secondary analyses, publications, real-world evidence, and other scientific communication initiatives. 

External Scientific Engagement

  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key external experts and other stakeholders.
  • Support the planning and execution of advisory boards, expert consultations, and scientific engagement activities. 

Scientific Communications

  • Support publication planning, congress activities, and other scientific communication initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of scientific narratives, communication platforms, and medical education materials.
  • Ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, and alignment across medical affairs activities and deliverables. 

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Represent Medical Affairs on cross-functional asset teams and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with Commercial, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Global Integrated Evidence & Innovation, Market Access, and other functions to support asset objectives.
  • Lead assigned medical affairs projects and workstreams to ensure timely execution of strategic priorities. 

Medical Insights

  • Collect and analyze insights from external experts, scientific meetings, emerging data, and the broader treatment landscape.
  • Support translation of insights into actionable recommendations that inform medical strategy, evidence generation, and scientific communication activities.
  • Effectively communicate key insights and strategic implications to internal stakeholders to support decision-making.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD, DO, PharmD, or PhD in a relevant life sciences discipline required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Medical Affairs Strategy in CNS, including psychiatry or other related therapeutic areas preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to medical strategy development and execute cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience supporting evidence generation activities, scientific communications, publications, and/or external expert engagement.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical development, Medical Affairs functions, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Ability to critically evaluate and synthesize scientific and clinical data to inform medical and business decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.Proven ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Experience working with external experts, advisory boards, and scientific meetings preferred.
  • Launch and/or pre-launch experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Veeva and Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Minimum $169,222.00 - Maximum $253,000.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting pay for individuals who are hired in the role to perform in the United States. Other elements may be used to determine actual pay such as the candidate’s job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role. Typically, actual pay will be positioned within the established range, rather than at its minimum or maximum. This information is provided to applicants in accordance with states and local laws.
