JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller will work under the guidance of the Construction Controller to prepare, review, and report financial data, supervise accounting staff, and strengthen the general accounting functions. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial transactions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review and/or prepare monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and project ledger to general ledger reconciliations for multiple companies.
  • Review and approve accounts payable invoices and expense reports, including invoice details and GL coding in Texada and Viewpoint Spectrum.
  • Prepare financial reports and analysis for management.
  • Monitor fixed asset accounts for multiple companies.
  • Complete intercompany invoicing.
  • Research complex accounting transactions and ensure reporting is in compliance with US GAAP, internal and external reporting requirements, and corporate policies.
  • Assist with audits and help ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Document policies and procedures and recommend improvements to current processes.
  • Mentor new and existing accounting staff.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This job assists in supervising the accounting department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Intermediate knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge and working experience using Viewpoint Spectrum and Texada products or ability to learn new accounting systems.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively communicate with employees, business partners, and clients via written and verbal communication methods.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to visualize, articulate, and solve complex problems and concepts, and make decisions based on available information.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work productively under pressure.
  • Ability to work with concentration, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to be detail orientated, organized, and responsive to customers, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years’ progressive experience in accounting.
  • Minimum of one-year supervisory experience.
  • Viewpoint Spectrum and Texada experience preferred.
  • CPA, CMA or MBA highly preferred
  • Experience in construction preferred.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, reference, and credit screening.
