Adult Protective Services (APS) Investigator – Region 1 (Northwest Indiana)

Location: Region 1 – Northwest Indiana - Field-Based
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Model: Virtual with Local Travel Required (up to 50%)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Regular Business Hours

Summary

Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) is hiring an APS Investigator to support the Indiana Bureau of Better Aging (BBA). In this role, you will investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving endangered adults. This position requires on-site field investigations and travel within the following counties:

We are seeking applicants located in Tippecanoe County and surrounding areas within the Northwest region.

Responsibilities:  

• Investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation involving endangered adults 
• Conduct thorough investigations, including interviews, record reviews, and collaboration with other investigative agencies 
• Initiate and facilitate referrals to services and community resources 
• Document investigation activities, including case planning, safety planning, case notes, and findings 
• Serve as Priority A (within 24 hours of receipt) responder to initiate timely contact with clients facing immediate harm 
• Respond to all assigned investigations within the required timeframe. Travel is required to the location of the assigned investigation. 
• Ability to conduct effective fact-finding interviews by asking probing questions that uncover key information, clarify inconsistencies, and determine the severity and impact of investigative issues. 
• Review and respond to quality assurance evaluations 

 Skills and Qualifications:

• Ability to think critically, incorporating multiple factors into larger concepts 
• Strong organizational skills with abilities to simultaneously manage multiple investigations 
• Ability to work with and relate to others with customer relation techniques, professionalism, and respect for other cultures 
• Ability to effectively use active listening and interviewing skills 
• Ability to adapt quickly when policies and regulations change 
• Must be computer literate and have MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet skills 
• Ability to foster teamwork with all levels of management and staff 
• Ability to work well independently and within a team 
• Superior verbal and written communication skills 
• Strong decision-making skills, with accuracy and attention to detail 

Requirements:

• Valid driver’s license 
• Reliable personal vehicle 
• Proof of auto insurance 
• The usual work schedule is full-time: Monday through Friday. Although this role has a remote component, you are expected to travel within the region you were hired for up to 50% of the time. 
• Must be able to conduct investigations in challenging, sensitive, or potentially uncomfortable work environments.

Education:  

• Bachelor’s degree preferred 
• 1+ years of experience with adult protective services, investigatory, social services, human services, or law enforcement work
