Applied AI Engineer

Work with Digital Fans as a Applied AI Engineer and build AI-powered products, tools and experiences for leading global brands.

About the role
As an Applied AI Engineer working with Digital Fans, you turn ideas into practical AI-powered products and solutions.

You will work closely with our technical leadership to explore opportunities, prototype new ideas and develop the most promising concepts into reliable software. Our projects range from agents and automated workflows to tools and applications that help people create, work and make decisions.

You have a strong software engineering foundation and enjoy working across the stack. You are comfortable building an interface, connecting APIs, designing a workflow and experimenting with models depending on what the problem needs.

You will work remotely from São Paulo, alongside three other São Paulo-based engineers working with us, and collaborate closely with our team in Sweden.. Together, you will make sure what we build can be integrated, maintained and improved through real-world use. Advanced English is required for collaboration with our international team.

You’ll play an important role in our AI development and help shape our technical approach.

What you’ll do

• Explore ideas with our team and turn business and user needs into working prototypes

• Build AI-powered products, tools, agents and automated workflows

• Work across interfaces, backend services, APIs and data to create complete product experiences

• Experiment with models, prompts, retrieval and agent frameworks, choosing approaches that fit the problem

• Test prototypes with users, learn from feedback and develop the strongest ideas into reliable solutions

• Build reusable components and integrations that support multiple projects and clients

• Evaluate AI behaviour and improve quality, reliability, performance and cost

• Collaborate with our AI Solutions Engineer in Sweden to prepare solutions for implementation in client environments

• Troubleshoot issues and evolve our products based on feedback from deployments and everyday use

• Share knowledge and contribute to how we build with AI
  

Experience

• Strong professional software development experience, including building and shipping usable applications

• Comfortable working across the full stack, including frontend, backend, APIs and data

• Strong experience with modern programming languages. Experience with TypeScript and Node.js is a plus

• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered applications, agents or automated workflows

• Experience with model APIs and approaches such as tool calling, structured outputs, RAG or context management

• Experience turning early ideas into working prototypes and iterating based on feedback

• Familiarity with testing, AI evaluation and monitoring application behaviour

• Experience with an agent framework or SDK is a plus. We currently work with Mastra and welcome experience with similar tools

• Experience in marketing, communications or a creative agency environment is a plus

About the engagement
This is a long-term freelance assignment on an ongoing basis. You’ll work remotely but will collaborate closely with our team in Brazil and Sweden.
