Analyst, Southeast Asia (Malaysia)

Position Overview

Eurasia Group is seeking an Analyst, Southeast Asia to join our Southeast Asia practice, with a primary focus on Malaysia and additional responsibilities supporting cross-cutting work across ASEAN. This role is ideally based in Malaysia (remote) and is suited to an experienced analyst (typically 5+ years of relevant experience) with strong political and policy analysis skills, excellent writing ability, and a demonstrated interest in how political developments shape market outcomes.

The Analyst will closely monitor Malaysian political and policy developments; produce timely, investor-relevant analysis for Eurasia Group’s client base; respond quickly to client needs; and collaborate with regional colleagues on pan-ASEAN coverage and thematic work.

Responsibilities of Analyst, Southeast Asia

• Track and analyze Malaysian politics and policy: Closely monitor political developments in Malaysia, primarily at the federal level and, where relevant to client exposure, at the state level—assessing implications for policy, governance, stability, and the investment environment.
• Produce concise, client-ready research: Draft clear, succinct written products (including research notes and reports) that anticipate and assess key political and policy developments—such as election dynamics and outcomes—and explain why they matter to investors.
• Election coverage and forecasting: Provide ongoing coverage of Malaysian elections and political transitions, including scenario development and informed expectations on likely political trajectories.
• Sector and supply-chain focused analysis: Develop expertise at the intersection of Malaysian politics/policy and key sectors—particularly areas tied to Malaysia’s role in global supply chains, including technology, energy, and critical minerals/rare earths.
• Client responsiveness and bespoke work: Respond promptly to client questions on Malaysia, including producing tailored memos, bespoke reports, and other custom analytic deliverables—often on tight timelines.
• Regional collaboration and ASEAN-wide products: Work closely with Southeast Asia practice colleagues on pan-ASEAN research and client needs; contribute to (and potentially lead) thematic regional analysis and products where appropriate.
• Develop and maintain on-the-ground insight networks: Proactively cultivate information sources and professional contacts to strengthen analysis and maintain real-time situational awareness.
• Occasional regional travel: Participate in periodic travel within Southeast Asia as opportunities arise (e.g., for research trips, conferences, or client-related engagements).

Desired Skills and Experience of Analyst, Southeast Asia

• Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience analyzing Malaysian politics and/or public policy (e.g., political risk, research, journalism, public sector, consulting, think tank, academia, finance/investment research).
• Subject-matter expertise: Demonstrated knowledge of Malaysia’s political landscape, institutions, key political actors, and policy priorities; ability to connect political developments to business and market implications.
• Writing and communication: Proven ability to write succinct, high-quality analytical reports for sophisticated audiences; strong verbal communication skills for internal collaboration and client-facing responsiveness.
• Language: Fluency in English required; Bahasa Malaysia preferred.
• Analytical mindset: Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment under uncertainty, and strong problem-solving skills—especially in fast-moving political contexts.
• Regional perspective: Familiarity with the wider ASEAN region is helpful but not required; willingness and ability to support cross-cutting regional work is essential.
• Work style: Self-starter with strong time management, attention to detail, and comfort working remotely while collaborating closely with a distributed team.

This role is ideally remote-based in Malaysia. Candidates must be eligible to work in Malaysia.
