Job Summary:
The Department of Counseling at Bethune-Cookman University invites applications for an Adjunct Professor position to support the Master’s in Counseling program. The area of specialization is open; however, preference will be given to applicants with expertise in clinical mental health counseling and counselor education, including the ability to teach graduate counseling courses such as Theories of Counseling, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Marriage and Family counseling and/or Techniques, Group Counseling, Facilitation Skills, Counseling Diverse Populations, Evaluation and Assessment, Human Lifespan and Development, Practicum/Internship preparation and other courses.
Adjunct faculty are expected to provide high-quality instruction aligned with program learning outcomes and CACREP standards while supporting student development, professional identity, and ethical practice in counselor education.
 
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide appropriate student support and supervision in assigned graduate counseling courses.
  • Effectively deliver curricular content aligned with program outcomes and CACREP standards.
  • Facilitate student engagement through online learning activities, discussion, and instruction.
  • Develop course examinations, assignments, and/or instructional resources as needed.
  • Provide timely grading and constructive feedback to support student learning and growth.
  • Collect, record, maintain, and submit accurate class records, including grades and attendance, to meet university policies.
  • Develop course examinations and/or resources.
  • Support student development of counseling skills, ethical reasoning, and professional dispositions.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of course syllabi, weekly learning materials, and course documentation.
  • Be familiar with Institutional, Department, and Program policies and procedures.
  • Participate in required orientation, training, and departmental communication as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellence in teaching and service.
  • Strong knowledge of counselor education and CACREP standards.
  • Ability to teach graduate-level counseling courses in an online/blended format (synchronous and asynchronous).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to meet university deadlines for grading, student communication, and course documentation.
  • Experience using learning management systems (Canvas, Jenzabar, etc.) is preferred
Education and Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program is preferred
  • Unencumbered license to practice as a Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida or licensed eligible
  • Doctorate in Counselor Education or related field
  • 3+ years of teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Knowledge of CACREP Accreditation
Physical Requirements:
  • Demands normal manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
  • Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be
  • some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
