AI Summary

Lead financial transformation and close optimization initiatives to enhance scalability and efficiency across the accounting organization. Manage discrete close activities including expense accruals, intercompany settlements, and SOX compliance frameworks.

About the team

Join a dynamic and collaborative group of accounting professionals on the Close and Consolidations Accounting team! Reporting up through the Accounting and Controllership organization, this team is charged with delivering accuracy, consistency, and excellence across the accounting function. We lead efforts to manage, streamline, and enhance the close process and systems, while also owning program oversight, driving strategic initiatives, and participating in the month-end close process for select areas. In addition, the team identifies and implements automation and process improvements that strengthen efficiency, standardization, and scalability across the broader accounting organization.

About the role

This role blends financial transformation, close management, and targeted hands-on accounting within Zillow's Close and Consolidations team. The primary focus is advancing close and consolidation initiatives beyond recurring accounting activities; taking ownership of programs, leading projects, and driving improvements that enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and strengthen scalability.

Alongside this, you'll act as an operational partner in running the close: owning close communication, facilitation, and the artifacts and frameworks that keep the cycle on track across the accounting organization.

A focused set of discrete, close responsibilities, such as expense accruals and intercompany settlements, rounds out the role. These keep you close to the details of the process while preserving the capacity needed for the transformation agenda.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in balancing execution with strategic thinking, can manage multiple priorities independently, and is eager to influence how our accounting processes scale with the business.

In this role, you will:

Close Management & Financial Transformation

  • Co-lead close optimization and efficiency initiatives, identify manual processes, build roadmaps, and drive improvements that reduce manual effort and strengthen scalability across the accounting organization.

  • Own close communications, facilitation, and tracking, maintaining the operational rhythm of the close cycle.

  • Overhaul and maintain the artifacts, templates, and frameworks used to coordinate close activity across the accounting org.

  • Lead recurring cross-team accounting programs, such as close management and consolidation, driving standardization and coordination across teams.

  • Provide oversight of the intercompany program; partner with Tax, Legal, Treasury, and Compliance to confirm that shared services and transfer pricing agreements are operating as intended, and flag issues that need to be addressed.

  • Represent accounting in Zillow Group–wide strategic projects such as M&A integrations, new entity formation, and reorganizations, and project-manage the execution of related activities across the accounting organization.

  • Develop and enhance operational policies and internal control frameworks to ensure SOX compliance.

  • Deliver financial analysis and develop metrics that provide insight into close processes, supporting efforts to drive optimization, standardization, and scalability.

Discrete Close Ownership

  • Own the accounting for a focused set of close areas, including expense accruals, ensuring that related journal entries and reconciliations are accurate and well supported.

  • Act as a reviewer of intercompany activity across a defined subset of entities operating under shared service and transfer pricing agreements, ensuring settlements are recorded accurately and in accordance with those agreements.

  • Author or review monthly fluctuation analyses and month-end close documentation for owned areas.
