The Academic Advisor supports student success and retention by assisting with course planning, scheduling, and navigating academic program requirements. They proactively monitor student data and collaborate with faculty to provide guidance and identify institutional resources for at-risk students.
Job Details: Salary Range: Undisclosed, The Academic Advisor plays a proactive role in student success and retention efforts. Academic Advisors assist matriculated students in navigating their chosen academic program(s). To support student success and retention, Academic Advisors use student data to support students in their studies, course completion, and scheduling. Academic Advisors are experts in the programs for which they are responsible and foster collaborative relationships with faculty and instructional staff to better assist students. Academic Advisors are familiar with all the college resources that are available to students so that they may direct them to the appropriate departments based on their needs.
Organization Role
This is a full-time, entry-level academic position reporting to the Assistant Director of Advising. This position requires a high level of interaction with students and faculty. The position does not have ongoing supervisory responsibilities.
Job Scope
This position does not have direct revenue or cost responsibility. This position does indirectly affect revenue through a focus on student retention.
Expected Contributions
Key/Representative Activities:
Daily communication with students who need assistance on all levels of their educational journey (registering for the next course, questions regarding testing and grading, clarify program requirements, policies and procedures for students, identifying appropriate institutional resources, etc.)
Collaborative work on creative proactive outreach to increase sit rates and retention
Monitor assigned courses and course data in order to conduct proactive outreach to students who may need assistance
Consult with students on course planning and scheduling. Recommend appropriate courses based on program specific learning paths
Track the advancement of students through a program to ensure student persistence from course to course
Provide assistance to at-risk students
Develop study plans and strategies with students using the resources available at the college or through 3rd parties
Identify resources that are beneficial to a student’s success and, where possible, develop new resources for students
Foster cooperative relationships with instructors in order to better serve students
Analyze and take action on course level data. Use course level data to report on caseloads
Clarify program requirements, policies and procedures for students
Assist the student in identifying appropriate institutional resources
Facilitate relationships between the student and other individuals on campus who may provide assistance
Interpret and communicate academic policies and procedures to students, ensuring understanding and compliance.
Stay current on academic program requirements, university policies, and advising best practices through ongoing professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
Three to five years of directly related experience and service background
Must be highly organized and capable of handling multiple course sections
Experience in Word, Excel, and relational database management systems (i.e., Peoplesoft, Salesforce, Brightspace, etc.)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Effective listening skills
The ability to work with a diverse group of students of different ages
Flexibility in work hours expected
Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting
Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.

The target hiring range is $52,000.00-$55,000.00
