Job Description

The Intermediate Designer – Structural Engineering Program (2027 Cohort) is a structured early-career development role designed for emerging professionals pursuing a career in structural engineering and building design. This program provides hands-on experience working on complex architectural and infrastructure projects while developing technical expertise in structural analysis, BIM modeling, and design coordination.

Participants will work under the guidance of senior engineers and project leaders to contribute to real-world projects across commercial, residential, and institutional developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the structural design and analysis of building systems (steel, concrete, timber)
  • Develop and maintain BIM models (Revit / Rhino / Tekla) for active projects
  • Support preparation of structural drawings, reports, and design documentation
  • Perform basic calculations and assist senior engineers in structural analysis tasks
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and technical workshops
  • Apply engineering principles to solve design challenges in real-time project environments

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Structural Engineering
    • Architectural Engineering
    • Or closely related discipline
  • Minimum GPA: 3.0 (REQUIRED)
  • Graduation timeline aligned with Class of 2027 or equivalent early-career eligibility
  • Strong interest in structural systems and building design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or co-op experience in structural engineering or architecture
  • Familiarity with structural design codes and building standards
  • Exposure to computational design tools (Grasshopper, Python, Dynamo)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced project environments

 

Portfolio Requirement (MANDATORY)

Applicants must submit a design and/or technical portfolio demonstrating:

  • Structural or architectural design work (academic or professional)
  • BIM modeling experience (Revit, Rhino, Tekla, or similar)
  • Structural analysis or engineering coursework projects
  • Visual communication of technical concepts (drawings, diagrams, renders)
  • Problem-solving approach and design thinking process
