BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT


The WFP Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil supports partner countries in developing sustainable school feeding, nutrition, and food security strategies. The volunteer will play a key role in this mission by providing high-quality simultaneous interpretation between Portuguese and Spanish during virtual technical engagements. These engagements often involve representatives from Latin American countries, requiring precise, culturally sensitive and technically accurate communication. The assignment also includes translation and revision of written materials, contributing to the production and sharing of knowledge and policy guidance.


DUTY AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the volunteer will perform the following responsibilities:

  • Provide simultaneous interpretation (Portuguese ↔ Spanish) during virtual technical meetings with Latin American partners, with sessions lasting approximately 2 hours.

  • Support virtual missions, workshops, and policy discussions, ensuring accuracy and clarity in real time.

  • Deliver interpretation on Zoom or Microsoft Teams with professional quality and consistency.

  • Translate technical and institutional documents PT↔ES.

  • Review and standardize terminology to ensure coherence with WFP communication standards.

  • Maintain updated tracking of translation assignments and deadlines.

  • Adjust meeting times as needed to ensure participation of all stakeholders.

  • Perform additional interpretation or translation tasks as required.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • Delivery of high-quality simultaneous interpretation for 2-hour online sessions.

  • Accurate, timely written translations that meet WFP quality standards.

  • Strengthened communication and technical collaboration between the Centre of Excellence and Latin American countries.

  • Efficient coordination of virtual meetings with flexible scheduling to meet participants’ needs.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


Education: Be enrolled in the final semesters or have completed a degree in Translation, Languages or related fields.
Experience: Minimum 6 months of experience with simultaneous interpretation Portuguese ↔ Spanish. Minimum 6 months of experience with translation and revision of Portuguese ↔ Spanish documents. Experience using online meeting platforms (Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, etc.).
Knowledge & Skills: Strong communication skills. Good time management
Languages: Fluency in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
