Job Overview:

The Vice President, Chemical Engineering & Process Innovation advance Asymchem’s chemical engineering capabilities to support the next generation of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. Building on Asymchem’s existing technical strengths, this leader will work with teams across the organization to advance process engineering, expand continuous manufacturing, and accelerate progress toward more automated, data-driven operations. The role will extend successful technologies and practices across client programs and global sites. Working closely with the Chief Technology Officer and existing technical and operational leaders, this VP will shape technology priorities, develop talent, and guide investments that connect scientific innovation with manufacturing execution. The opportunity is to influence Asymchem’s technology direction while delivering measurable progress in engineering capability and manufacturing performance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Partner with technical and operational leaders to continuously improve engineering capabilities, technical practices, and cross-site collaboration. Translate shared priorities into a roadmap with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
• Support the development of engineering talent across the US, Europe, and China. Mentor technical leaders, share effective methods, and contribute to recruitment aligned with evolving business needs.
• Strengthen process understanding, measurement, modeling, and control to enable reliable automation. Connect laboratory development with manufacturing requirements from the outset.
• Partner with manufacturing, automation, and digital teams to develop and validate approaches that integrate PAT, process models, and data-driven decisions. Apply AI where it offers demonstrable process value.
• Prioritize opportunities for automated and continuous processing, demonstrate their value, and lead the engineering work required for adoption in manufacturing.
• Advance capabilities in reaction engineering, continuous processing, crystallization, solid-form and particle engineering, and separation and isolation. Select technologies against process needs, safety, robustness, and economics.
• Translate successful approaches into platforms that can be reused across client programs. Extend relevant capabilities from small molecules to peptides, oligonucleotides, and emerging modalities.
• Guide critical engineering decisions through scale-up, technology transfer, and commercialization. Work with process chemistry, analytical, manufacturing, quality, and regulatory teams to resolve complex process challenges.
• Engage clients on technical strategy and due diligence. Translate engineering capabilities into credible development and manufacturing solutions that strengthen client confidence and business opportunities.
• Partner with the CTO and functional leaders to identify opportunities for technology advancement, shape long-term priorities, and guide investment in people, equipment, and external partnerships.
• Evaluate emerging technologies with scientific rigor and implementation discipline. Build academic and industry collaborations, develop future technical leaders, and represent Asymchem in senior technical discussions.

Experience Requirements - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Substantial pharmaceutical development, engineering, or manufacturing experience, typically 15+ years, with increasing leadership responsibility. Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and CDMO backgrounds are welcome.
• Demonstrated success advancing engineering capabilities or technology platforms, developing talent, and translating technical progress into sustained operational results.
• Strong chemical engineering fundamentals, depth in one or more relevant process technologies, and the breadth to lead specialists. A record of successful scale-up, technology transfer, or commercial implementation is essential.
• A collaborative leader who develops talent, earns trust across functions, and advances technical priorities through shared ownership and disciplined implementation.
• Credibility with clients, technical experts, and executives; sound process safety and quality judgment; and the ability to lead across functions, cultures, and locations.
• Bilingual English and Mandarin a plus, but not required.
• Experience implementing process automation, advanced controls, or continuous manufacturing is desirable.
• Experience with peptides or oligonucleotides and external technology partnerships are desirable.
• Domestic and International Travel as required. Approximately 40%
