AI Triangle is a joint initiative of TUM Venture Labs, the ETH AI Center, IPAI and Campus Founders, backed by TU Munich and ETH Zürich. Further AI entrepreneurship centers and universities will join. The Opportunity
We are hiring an Expert AI Infrastructure & Frontier Models to drive the Build phase. Your job: create the formats and support structures that let founders and hubs turn academic breakthroughs into frontier AI solutions and the next generation of AI companies - across key hubs and their partner institutions.
Concretely, you build the formats that:

• Lower the barriers to infrastructure, inference, data, and evaluation, and
• Spark innovation around frontier models and platforms.

The Challenge
This is a deliberate hybrid role, and we want to be honest about that up front. It joins two profiles that rarely coexist in a single person:

• The deep technical judgment on large-scale AI infrastructure to build and run frontier AI models (pre- and post-training, inference, data engineering, evaluation,...)
• The instinct to strategically build solutions with ecosystem partners that help researchers and founders to overcome the hurdles

You will move between two worlds: deep technical conversations with ML-infrastructure experts from CSCS/ALPS, Jülich, AWS, Google, and NVIDIA, and high-impact discussions with top innovators and early founders emerging from ecosystems like TUM, ETH, and IPAI. Your mission

• Drive hub collaboration: align technical leads across the hubs and lead flagship projects that catalyze real, cross-border cooperation.
  
  
• Shape frontier model development: Define approaches to frontier model development with partners and founders that address the current challenges.
  
  
• Build the open innovation layer: create sandboxes, APIs and formats so the next wave of builders starts faster.
  
  
• Enable future founders and startups: design the education and support formats that help teams scale models, data and compute into products.
  
  
• Map and improve the landscape: continuously analyze the compute, data, model architectures, training approaches and evaluation resources across the Triangle and close the gaps.
  
  
• Coordinate compute access: secure fair, workable access across STACKIT, ALPS, KI Service-Centers, and cloud providers for founders and startups.
  
  
• Steer data and evaluation: manage shared training-data access, develop sector-specific benchmarks, and scale evaluation know-how across the network.

Your profile

• Technical depth: you are a senior expert in ML training and infrastructure – from data to pre- and post-trainiang, inference, MLOps, and cloud.
  
  
• Credibility and network: you have the standing to build trust with leading universities, entrepreneurship centers, and high-growth startups, and to be taken seriously as a peer.
  
  
• Strategic clarity: you turn complex infrastructure challenges into strategies that work across an entire ecosystem.
  
  
• Bridge-building: you connect deep-tech research with applied technology, build trusted relationships with founders and partners, and spar with them on hard decisions - with empathy and clarity.
  
  
• Languages: fluent German and English, written and spoken.
