Trucking Mechanic Expert Witness
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Trucking Mechanic Expert to join our team of forensic and litigation support professionals. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic, Fleet Maintenance Manager, Shop Foreman, or Commercial Truck Technician with extensive hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Class 7–8 commercial vehicles.
If you've spent your career working on heavy-duty trucks and understand how mechanical failures, maintenance practices, and vehicle inspections impact safety and performance, this is an opportunity to leverage your expertise as an expert witness. Prior expert witness experience is helpful but not required—we're looking for subject matter experts with deep industry knowledge.
In this role, you'll apply your real-world mechanical experience to legal cases involving commercial truck accidents, equipment failures, maintenance practices, repair standards, and compliance with federal transportation regulations.
Responsibilities
Conduct forensic evaluations of commercial vehicles, including Class 7–8 trucks, tractor-trailers, braking systems, steering components, suspension systems, driveline components, tires, and fifth wheel/coupling systems.
Analyze mechanical failures and determine root causes related to improper maintenance, equipment failure, repair quality, component wear, or manufacturing defects.
Review maintenance records, repair orders, inspection reports, and service histories to evaluate vehicle condition and maintenance practices.
Assess compliance with FMCSA regulations, DOT inspection requirements, OEM maintenance recommendations, and industry best practices.
Prepare clear, well-supported expert opinions and written reports based on your technical knowledge and forensic review.
Participate in case discussions and, when needed, provide testimony during depositions or trial proceedings.
Stay current on commercial vehicle systems, diesel engine technology, braking systems, electronic diagnostics, and safety regulations.
Qualifications
Extensive hands-on experience maintaining and repairing Class 7–8 commercial trucks.
Background as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic, Fleet Maintenance Manager, Shop Foreman, Service Manager, or similar role.
Strong understanding of commercial truck mechanical systems, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repair procedures.
Familiarity with FMCSA regulations, DOT inspections, and commercial vehicle maintenance standards.
Ability to analyze complex mechanical issues and clearly explain findings.
Previous expert witness experience is a plus but not required.
What We Offer:
Competitive compensation with flexible, case-based engagements.
Peer review support and access to a multidisciplinary team of experts across Trucking, Transportation Safety, Digital Forensics, Roadway Design, Accident Reconstruction, and related specialties.
Professional report editing and peer review to ensure your opinions are clear, defensible, and aligned with industry standards.
Access to marketing and business development support, connecting you with high-impact cases involving trucking incidents and mechanical failures.
Ongoing coaching and deposition/testimony training to strengthen your effectiveness and confidence in legal settings.
A collaborative environment where your engineering expertise directly supports the legal process while minimizing administrative burden and maximizing your impact.
