Thunderbird Partnership Foundation is a national non-profit organization serving First Nations in mental wellness. Our mandate is set by three frameworks:
- Honouring Our Strengths: A Renewed Framework to Address Substance Use Issues Among First Nations People in Canada
- Indigenous Wellness Framework
- First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum
Our core stakeholders are First Nations communities and the network of First Nations adult and youth treatment centres. To support our mandate, Thunderbird has two office locations: one based in a First Nations community in southwestern Ontario, and the other in the city of London, Ontario. This position may be considered as a remote work position.
Your Opportunity
As the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation French Translator, you will
- be responsible for the translation of a large variety of training curriculum, self-directed online courses, documents and products for Thunderbird Partnership Foundation.
- be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and overall quality of French communications to the partners, stakeholders and First Nations in French- speaking regions.
- have an excellent knowledge of the structure and content of both the English and French languages including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, grammar, sentence construction, verb tense, vocabulary and pronunciation.
- compile terminology, acronyms, and information to be used in translation, including technical terms such as those for education-specific, medical documents or Indigenous Knowledge concepts;
- work with others like yourself who are dedicated to the work which has real value and meaning in the lives of others;

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in linguistics AND certification from a recognized translators' association;
OR
Minimum of 3 years, direct experience in French translation for First Nations, and post-secondary education.
Other Requirements
- Fully fluent in English and French both in writing and verbally
- Attention to details and work efficiently with minimum supervision
- Superior formal and informal oral and written skills in English and French Fluency in a First Nations language is a definite asset
- Ability to provide simultaneous interpretation Strong grammar and proofreading skills
- Excellent at meeting deadlines and managing workflow Enjoy collaborating in a team environment
- Experience working with Microsoft Office and Acrobat Pro
- Ability to work independently and within a team; proactive with research for projects Understanding of lexicon/guidelines
- Knowledge of First Nations traditions and customs including natural healing is a definite asset High level of professionalism and able to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Ability to communicate clearly in English both in writing and verbally
- Significant familiarity with the programs, policies, regulations and operating procedures of Thunderbird Partnership
- Attention to details and work efficiently with minimum supervision
