About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and customer-oriented Training Advisor to join our team. The Training Advisor plays a key role in regulating and supporting the NSW apprenticeship and traineeship system by providing independent advice, monitoring compliance with legislative requirements, and supporting the delivery of vocational education and training (VET) programs and services to apprentices, trainees, employers, training providers and the broader community.

In this role you will:

  • Conduct regular field visits to meet with apprentices, trainees, employers and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor compliance with the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act 2001, training contracts, Training Plans and related regulatory requirements.
  • Provide independent advice and guidance on apprenticeships, traineeships, vocational training and related legislation.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve apprenticeship and traineeship issues, disputes and non-compliance through negotiation and regulatory intervention where required.
  • Facilitate courageous conversations and influence positive outcomes for all parties.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with employers, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), Apprentice Connect Australia Providers (ACAP) providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Promote and deliver NSW Government programs, initiatives and services that support skills development and workforce participation.
  • Maintain accurate case records, reports and regulatory documentation using departmental systems.
  • Manage competing priorities, meet performance targets and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

About you

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to have courageous and constructive conversations
  • Resilient, self-directed, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage diverse tasks
  • A high level of professionalism and the ability to influence positive behaviour and practices
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management
  • Knowledge of the apprenticeship and VET system is advantageous but not essential
  • Committed to delivering high-quality support services and achieving positive outcomes
  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

 

Essential requirements of the role

  • Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
  • Current and Valid Driver’s Licence as it’s a field based role
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
