The Sr. Field Application Scientist, Cell Culture Automation is responsible for serving as the primary scientific and technical expert for cell culture automation across JAPAC. The role accelerates customer success, scientific adoption and commercial growth by translating complex cell biology workflows into reliable automated solutions, leading proof-of-concept work and supporting customers from evaluation through long-term adoption.

 

This position reports on an interim basis to the Interim General Manager, JAPAC and is part of the Commercial Applications / Scientific Affairs organization, located in Singapore and working remotely to cover Japan and Asia Pacific (JAPAC).

 

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Serve as the regional scientific and technical expert for cell culture automation, supporting customer discovery, workflow assessment, solution design, evaluation, implementation and sustained adoption across JAPAC.
  • Design and execute product demonstrations, feasibility studies and proof-of-concept projects for advanced cell models, including induced pluripotent stem cells, organoids, spheroids, immuno-oncology and translational disease models.
  • Translate cell culture protocols and acceptance criteria into reliable automated workflows, including liquid handling, labware configuration, imaging, monitoring, feeding, seeding, passaging, compound addition and endpoint assays.
  • Guide customers in AI-enabled image analysis, phenotype classification, segmentation, feature extraction, quantitative analysis, data interpretation and image-guided automated decision making.
  • Partner with commercial and cross-functional teams to advance opportunities, lead onboarding and training, optimize applications, coordinate technical escalations, and develop strategic reference sites and scientific collaborations.

 

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, Pharmacology, Computational Biology or a related discipline; or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with substantial relevant industry experience.
  • Multiple years of customer-facing scientific applications experience in a field applications, application scientist, product specialist, scientific consulting or comparable technical-commercial role.
  • Demonstrated experience with automated cell culture, liquid handling, laboratory robotics or workflow automation, together with relevant cell-based applications such as stem cells, induced pluripotent stem cells, organoids or spheroids.
  • Demonstrated experience with live-cell imaging, high-content screening, automated microscopy, cell-based assay development or AI-assisted image analysis, including data interpretation and workflow optimization.
  • Fluent English communication and presentation capability, with experience supporting customers and cross-functional stakeholders across multiple countries and cultures.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel internationally approximately 40-60%, including overnight travel, to support customers and commercial teams across JAPAC.
  • Ability to work in customer laboratory environments and comply with applicable site safety, access and training requirements.

 

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Cell culture automation, ImageXpress systems, MetaXpress, IN Carta, high-content screening platforms, automated cell culture platforms or comparable technologies.
  • Drug discovery, biopharmaceutical, contract research organization, academic research institute, stem cell center or imaging core-facility environments.
  • Launching emerging scientific technologies, developing strategic reference sites or driving adoption across Asia Pacific.
