Temp Parttime Faculty - Psychology and Sociology

The UNM Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences seeks to hire a Temporary Part-Time Faculty member to teach one or more of following subject areas for Spring 2027/Summer 2027/Fall 2027 for face to face and online instruction.

          PSYC (Psychology)

          SOCI (Sociology)

We propose a base salary of $1,157.97, to $1.240.17 per credit hour depending on successful candidates’ qualifications. The following is a list of courses that may be available for assignment. This list is not exhaustive and may be subject to change based on enrollment and scheduling needs

PSYC1110 - Introduction to Psychology
This course will introduce students to the concepts, theories, significant findings, methodologies, and terminology that apply to the field of psychology. (3 credits)

PSYC2110 – Social Psychology 
This course is an introduction to the scientific study of human social influence and interaction, and explores how an individual’s actions, emotions, attitudes and thought processes are influenced by society and other individuals. (3 credits).                                                                                                            

PSYC2220 - Cognitive Psychology)
The course provides an overview of human cognitive processes such as attention, perception, memory, language, categorization, decision-making, reasoning, and problem solving. Includes methods, theories, and applications. (3 credits)

PSYC2250 - Brain and Behavior
A general survey of the biological foundations of behavior and mental processes. Students will gain an understanding of anatomy, physiology, and chemistry of the nervous system and their relationships to human behavior. (3 credits)

PSYC2270 - Psychology of Learning and Memory
This course provides an overview of how information is acquired, stored, retrieved, and manifested in the behavior of human and non-human animals. (3 credits)

PSYC2330 - Psychology of Human Sexuality
Exploration of the psychological, physiological, cultural, social and individual factors that influence sexual behavior, sex roles, and sex identity. (3 credits)

SOCI 1110 - Introduction to Sociology
This course will introduce students to the basic concepts and theories of sociology, as well as to the methods utilized in sociological research. The course will address how sociological concepts and theories can be utilized to analyze and interpret our social world, and how profoundly our society and the groups to which students belong influence them. (3 credits)

SOCI 2315 Dynamics Of Prejudice
This course is designed to help students understand how attitudes and beliefs of individuals shape intergroup relations and their impacts on the daily lives of individuals as well as the effects that these beliefs have on the larger social structure of American society. (3 credits)

SOCI 2210 Sociology of Deviance
This course is designed to provide an overview of the study of deviance and social control from multiple sociological perspectives. The instructor will present how sociologists research deviance and social control and the ethical issues involved in studying human subjects involved in these activities. (3 credits)

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in the discipline or subfield in which they are applying to teach. 
• Applicant must have completed a program of study in the discipline or subfield in which they teach, with coursework at least one level above that of the courses being taught or developed (e.g., completed a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline or subfield in which they teach or tested experience that is determined to be equivalent to the degree).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Teaching experience in a post-secondary institution, particularly community college experience.
• Demonstrated experience in remote delivery of instruction.
• Successful experience in practice or field work (if applicable).
• A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understand of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
