About the Role

This is an opportunity to bring psychiatric expertise to members whose behavioral health needs are tangled up with their medical and social challenges. As a Telepsychiatrist, you evaluate Carewell members with behavioral health needs and partner with our care team to build plans that address the whole person.

The role is built around three connected areas:

• Psychiatric Evaluation — conducting initial evaluations for members with behavioral health and advocacy needs.
• Treatment Recommendations — providing clear recommendations to members, their providers, and the care team.
• Care Team Consultation — helping nurses, social workers, and care navigators support members with behavioral health needs.

This is a part-time 1099 contract engagement. You set your own availability. All member interactions take place by video or phone.

What You'll Do (Scope of Services)

Evaluation & Treatment

• Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations with members who have behavioral health needs, including depression, anxiety, and cognitive or mood concerns.
• Develop treatment recommendations, including medication management where in scope and appropriate.
• Coordinate with members' primary care providers and existing behavioral health providers to support continuity of care.

Care Team Consultation

• Review and guide care plans developed with the care team to address both behavioral health and social needs.
• Consult with nurses, social workers, and care navigators on members with complex behavioral health needs.
• Help the team recognize psychiatric red flags, and support the protocols used to escalate safety concerns.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete accurate, timely documentation for every evaluation and consultation.
• Follow all telehealth, prescribing, privacy (HIPAA), and consent requirements.

Outcomes You'll Drive

Member Outcomes

• Evaluations completed and recommendations delivered within agreed timeframes
• Members connected to appropriate ongoing behavioral health care

Quality & Compliance

• Documentation complete, accurate, and on time
• Safety concerns escalated the same day they are identified

Who You Are

Required

• MD or DO with board certification (or board eligibility) in Psychiatry.
• Active, unrestricted medical license in at least one U.S. state.
• Active DEA registration.
• Located in the United States.
• 2+ years of post-residency psychiatric practice.
• Experience working with a multidisciplinary care team.
• Comfortable with telehealth platforms and EHRs.
• Your own reliable computer, high-speed internet, and a private, HIPAA-appropriate workspace.

Nice to Have

• Geriatric psychiatry experience or fellowship.
• Licensure in multiple states or IMLC eligibility.
• Experience with Medicare, dual-eligible, or older adult populations.
• Collaborative care model experience.
• Bilingual (Spanish preferred).
