We are seeking a Technical Writer to support a large federal agency's cybersecurity program in a fully remote capacity. In this role, you will be the bridge between complex security concepts and the people who need to understand them — translating technical documentation, policy frameworks, and cybersecurity guidance into clear, accurate, and accessible written content. You will collaborate closely with cybersecurity engineers, analysts, and program managers to produce high-quality deliverables that support the agency's security posture and compliance objectives. Candidates with 2–3 years of experience in technical writing within a cybersecurity or IT context are encouraged to apply. Familiarity with NIST, NIST CSF, and CIS frameworks is essential. A working knowledge of AI tools is a plus.
This is a multi-year contract position involving a large US federal agency. Candidates with previous federal contracting experience are preferred. U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required. If hired, all work related to this role must be performed within the continental U.S.
Responsibilities:
- Translate complex cybersecurity concepts, processes, and technical findings into plain-language written content for a range of audiences, including non-technical stakeholders
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including policies, procedures, user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and program reports
- Apply knowledge of NIST, NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), and CIS Controls to inform and structure documentation deliverables
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and program managers to gather technical information and validate accuracy
- Support cybersecurity program communications, including presentations, briefings, and executive summaries
- Review and edit existing documentation for clarity, consistency, accuracy, and compliance with agency style standards
- Assist in documenting AI tools and their appropriate use within the program context
- Maintain version control and documentation repositories in accordance with program standards
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to sprint planning or project milestone reviews as applicable
Requirements
Must-Have:
- 2–3 years of experience in technical writing within a cybersecurity or IT environment
- Demonstrated ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, natural-language content for diverse audiences
- Familiarity with NIST, NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF), and/or CIS Controls
- General cybersecurity experience sufficient to understand subject matter and collaborate effectively with technical staff
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card)
- Ability to successfully complete a federal background check and obtain public trust clearance
- All work must be performed within the continental United States
Preferred / Nice-to-Have:
- Experience supporting federal agency or government contracting environments
- Familiarity with AI tools and their application in a professional writing or documentation context
- Experience with document management systems or version control platforms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, or similar collaboration tools
- Exposure to additional cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., RMF, FedRAMP, FISMA)
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
