The following position is to join our RTX Enterprise Services team:

We are seeking a Workday Adaptive Planning Technical Product Owner with strong hands-on technical expertise to own and evolve enterprise Adaptive Planning solutions supporting Workforce Planning.

This role combines product ownership, technical solution leadership, and hands-on Adaptive platform expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to operate beyond a traditional Product Owner capacity, bringing the technical depth necessary to understand how Adaptive models are designed and configured, evaluate and challenge proposed solutions, troubleshoot complex platform issues, and contribute directly to configuration and development when appropriate.

Candidates should have 3 or more years of substantive, hands-on experience working within the backend of Workday Adaptive Planning. Experience limited primarily to business-user functionality, reporting, requirements gathering, or front-end use of Adaptive will not provide the technical depth required for this role.

What You Will Do

Technical Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Own the technical product roadmap and backlog for assigned Workday Adaptive Planning solutions, balancing business priorities with platform health, scalability, maintainability, performance, and technical debt.

  • Partner with business and Workforce Intelligence stakeholders to translate workforce planning strategy and complex requirements into sustainable Adaptive capabilities.

  • Evaluate requirements for technical feasibility, complexity, dependencies, and platform impact before work enters development.

  • Lead backlog refinement and prioritization, ensuring work is technically understood, appropriately scoped, and ready for execution.

  • Provide technically informed recommendations to stakeholders and leadership regarding solution options, risks, trade-offs, capacity, and platform direction.

Adaptive Technical Solution Design

  • Translate business requirements into technically viable Adaptive Planning solutions.

  • Evaluate and guide solution design across model structures, levels, dimensions, accounts, modeled and standard sheets, formulas, assumptions, versions, access rules, and related configuration.

  • Review and challenge proposed technical designs to ensure solutions follow sound Adaptive design practices and are scalable, maintainable, and performant.

  • Identify opportunities to simplify existing solutions, reduce unnecessary complexity, address technical debt, and improve overall platform health.

  • Understand the implications of configuration changes across interconnected models, data flows, reporting, security, and downstream processes.

Hands-On Adaptive Planning Expertise

  • Independently navigate and work within the Adaptive Planning backend.

  • Perform targeted configuration and development activities where appropriate.

  • Investigate and resolve complex Adaptive configuration, calculation, model-behavior, security/access, and data-related issues.

  • Analyze formulas, model structures, dependencies, and data behavior to support root-cause analysis.

  • Validate configuration changes and technical solutions before release.

  • Contribute directly to enhancements and defect resolution based on complexity, priority, and team capacity.

Technical Leadership & Developer Partnership

  • Serve as a technically credible partner to Adaptive developers and other technical resources.

  • Review technical approaches and provide guidance on Adaptive architecture and design.

  • Challenge solutions that introduce unnecessary complexity, performance degradation, maintainability concerns, or technical debt.

  • Support developers during refinement and execution by clarifying requirements, dependencies, expected system behavior, and acceptance criteria.

  • Help establish and reinforce technical standards and development practices across the Adaptive environment.

Testing, Release & Platform Health

  • Define and support technical acceptance criteria and meaningful test scenarios.

  • Validate calculations, model behavior, security, data movement, and end-to-end solution outcomes.

  • Support release planning, sequencing, dependency identification, and implementation readiness.

  • Monitor platform health and identify recurring issues, performance concerns, technical debt, and optimization opportunities.

Cross-Platform & Integration Partnership

  • Understand Adaptive inbound and outbound data flows and key dependencies across Workday and the broader enterprise technology ecosystem.

  • Diagnose whether issues originate within Adaptive configuration/modeling, source data, integrations, security, or business processes.

  • Partner effectively with integration, Workday, data, architecture, and security specialists when issues extend beyond Adaptive.

  • Deep integration-development or SQL expertise is not required, but candidates must possess sufficient technical understanding to investigate dependencies and engage the appropriate specialists.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires: A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience. Experience to include more than 3 years of hands-on Workday Adaptive Planning experience, including direct ownership of backend model configuration and development.

  • Proven ability to design, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Adaptive Planning models with measurable improvements in stability and performance.

  • Demonstrated success translating complex business requirements into scalable, technically sound Adaptive model solutions.

  • Track record of diagnosing and resolving complex issues related to model behavior, calculations, configuration, data integrity, and performance.

  • Consistent participation in technical design discussions, providing guidance on scalability, maintainability, adherence to best practices, and communicating technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Demonstrated experience supporting large-scale or complex enterprise Adaptive Planning implementations across multiple business units or models.

  • Proven workforce planning expertise, including building and maintaining workforce‑related Adaptive Planning models.

  • Hands-on experience managing multiple Adaptive instances and integrating Workday HCM data structures to drive accurate planning solutions.

  • Direct experience implementing and troubleshooting Adaptive integrations, including APIs, data loads, enterprise patterns, and security/access design.

  • Track record of identifying and remediating model performance issues and technical debt, combined with Agile Product Owner or Product Management experience and validated by Adaptive Planning certification or equivalent platform expertise.

What Success Looks Like

The successful candidate will be able to move comfortably between product strategy and technical execution. They can discuss priorities and business outcomes with senior stakeholders, then work directly with an Adaptive developer to evaluate model design, investigate a calculation issue, challenge an overly complex solution, or independently navigate the backend to determine what is happening.

This is not a traditional functional Product Owner role with light Adaptive exposure. We are looking for someone with genuine Adaptive technical depth who can provide strong product ownership while also serving as a technically credible leader for the platform.
