The Tax Manager oversees non-income tax obligations for Mexico operations, including VAT, withholding tax, and personal income tax compliance. They also manage tax audits, coordinate with the SAT, and provide tax-related guidance to internal teams and stakeholders.
The Tax Manager (Mexico) is responsible for overseeing the non-income tax obligations for the Mexico operations, ensuring full compliance with personal income tax, withholding tax, and VAT requirements. This includes managing calculations, filings, payments, audits, and inquiries while ensuring adherence to legislative requirements. The role also involves managing the Mexico tax calendar, providing guidance on non-income tax matters, and supporting internal teams. Additionally, this role includes assisting the Corporate Tax team by reviewing income tax accruals, providing legislation updates and support with audits. All tasks must be executed with integrity and in alignment with the company’s policies and frameworks.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
- Oversee personal income tax, withholding tax (WHT), and VAT processes for Mexico operations, including providing financial data to external advisors and reviewing/approving all monthly and annual tax filings, calculations, and reconciliations.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all Mexican tax returns (CIT, VAT, WHT) and coordinate all related payments within statutory deadlines.
- Manage correspondence with the Mexican tax authority (SAT), including translation, and lead responses to audits, inquiries, and regulatory reviews.
- Support and represent the company in audits; prepare documentation and analysis to address audit-related matters.
- Review accounts payable proposals to identify WHT applicability and advise operations and purchasing on GL coding and tax treatment.
- Review and approve tax clauses in customer and vendor contracts; communicate risks to relevant stakeholders and collaborate cross-functionally (Accounting, Operations, Treasury, Legal, Marketing) on tax-related matters.
- Maintain tax calendars to ensure compliance with all deadlines and support quarterly US GAAP tax provisions and monthly tax-related accruals.
- Identify tax planning opportunities and share insights with the Corporate Tax team.
- Partner with HR to ensure expatriate tax compliance to support work permit issuance.
- Engage with external tax representatives (customers/vendors) to resolve contract-related tax issues.
- Drive liquidation of inactive entities/branches and support ad hoc tax projects and other duties as assigned.
- Indirectly report to local tax consulting firms, Lead Accountants, Business Controllers and GL Specialists.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 5+ years of experience, including a combination of public accounting and oilfield services industry.
- Proficiency in financial systems and tools (e.g., Excel, OneStream, IFS systems).
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish
- Previous experience working at a big 4 accounting firm preferred
