The Strategic Analytics Lead will transform complex data into actionable insights to support strategic decision-making and organizational performance. Overview of the role (What can I expect, why does it exist?)
As a key member of the Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence team, you will play a vital role in supporting strategic decision-making across BlueLight Commercial. Leveraging your expertise in data management, analytics and business intelligence, you will transform complex data into actionable insights that drive value across blue light services and effectively communicate these insights to stakeholders.
As an Strategic Analytics Lead, you will champion the use of data, emerging technologies and analytical best practice to support informed decision-making, monitor performance and track the delivery of strategic initiatives. Working closely with commercial and business stakeholders, you will help deliver better outcomes and greater value through:
Developing trusted data assets through strong data governance, quality controls and standardisation.
Coordinating and analysing complex datasets from multiple internal and external sources to generate meaningful business insights.
Delivering reporting, dashboards, performance measures and balanced scorecards that support strategic and operational decision-making.
Providing commercial and market intelligence through the analysis of spend, demand, suppliers, inflation, benchmarking and performance data.
Driving innovation, continuous improvement, automation and the adoption of AI and emerging technologies to enhance organisational effectiveness and value delivery.

You will be part of a growing Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence team within the wider Commercial function. This role is integral to BlueLight Commercial, supporting the achievement of our strategic objectives through the delivery of real-time, valuable insights that enable informed, high-level decision-making.

My responsibilities and accountabilities
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the organisation's data architecture, ensuring data assets are structured, accessible and scalable to support current and future business needs.
Establish, maintain and continuously improve data standards and quality controls, driving greater standardisation, consistency and trust in organisational data.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of efficient processes for aggregating, integrating and managing data from multiple internal and external sources, including structured and unstructured datasets.
Analyse organisational and customer data to identify data quality issues, inconsistencies, duplication and opportunities for improvement.
Apply data profiling, cleansing, validation, transformation and reconciliation techniques to ensure data is accurate, complete and fit for business use.
Develop and enhance reporting, dashboards and performance metrics that provide timely, reliable and actionable insights to stakeholders.
Translate complex data from multiple sources into clear insights, recommendations and business intelligence.
Analyse spend, demand, supplier, specification and operational data to support commercial strategy, planning and decision-making at local, regional and national levels.
Integrate market intelligence, supplier information, inflation indicators and external benchmarking data to identify trends, risks, opportunities and strategic insights across commercial categories and services.
Apply analytical techniques, including trend analysis, forecasting, benchmarking, variance analysis, scenario modelling and performance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Support specialist Commercial teams through the development and management of datasets, analytics and supplier intelligence, enabling effective category management and supplier strategies.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand business requirements, maximise the value of data and support governance forums and decision-making processes.
Support the adoption of automation, emerging technologies and AI solutions to improve efficiency, data quality, insight generation and decision-making.
Contribute to the continuous development of the Data, Analytics and Business Intelligence function through innovation, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Accreditations
You are someone who has attained:
A strong academic record ideally in an analysis focused degree or economics, finance or Business Studies.
Microsoft Power BI, Fabric or Data Analytics certification (desirable)
Experience & Knowledge
You are someone who has:
Strong organisational skills with the ability to deliver multiple /parallel projects.
Advanced analytical skills, including trend analysis, forecasting, benchmarking and insight generation.
Proven experience developing dashboards, reports and performance metrics using Business Intelligence tools.
Proven ability to manage and reconcile data from disparate systems, ensuring accuracy, consistency and data quality.
Strong understanding of data integration, data modelling and the management of structured and unstructured datasets.
Ability to collate, integrate and interpret data from multiple internal and external sources, including market intelligence, supplier information and benchmarking data.
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power Query and modern cloud-based analytics platforms.
Knowledge of automation and AI-driven analytics solutions.
Commercial / procurement experience gained within the public sector or large private sector organisation (desirable).
Strong commercial acumen and in depth understanding of the commercial lifecycle (desirable).
Business process modelling (lean six sigma or equivalent) (desirable)

Good verbal and written communication skills to ensure analytical insights are understood and used.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations.
Demonstrable experience in developing balanced scorecards.
Excellent professional IT skills across the Microsoft Office suite including visualisation tools such as Power BI.
