About This Role:

Shape the Future of Connected Cardiac Care as a Staff Android Engineer on our Mobile Telemetry team. As a Staff Android Engineer you will serve as the technical leader and primary owner of the Android Gateway application powering our next-generation Mobile Cardiac Telemetry platform. This is a highly visible, hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, defining architecture, and influencing product direction. You'll operate at the intersection of mobile engineering, connected medical devices, cloud-enabled ecosystems, and patient care, helping deliver technology that clinicians and patients rely on every day.

As the technical lead for the Android platform, you will drive the strategy, architecture, and execution of critical mobile initiatives, transforming clinical and product requirements into scalable, resilient, and secure solutions. You will make key technical decisions, establish engineering best practices, and serve as a trusted partner to Product, Systems Engineering, Quality, Regulatory, and cross-functional software teams.

Beyond writing high-quality production code, you'll guide architecture reviews, mentor engineers, influence technical direction across teams, and elevate the overall quality, reliability, and maintainability of our mobile ecosystem. Your work will directly shape a mission-critical platform designed to improve patient outcomes and advance the future of cardiac monitoring.

What You'll Do

• Own the technical vision, architecture, and long-term evolution of our Android Gateway platform.
• Lead the design and delivery of complex mobile initiatives from concept through production.
• Develop robust, scalable Android applications using modern mobile development practices and technologies.
• Drive architectural decisions and establish patterns that improve performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Partner closely with Product, Systems, Firmware, Quality, Regulatory, and Cloud Engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Lead technical design reviews and champion engineering excellence across the organization.
• Mentor and coach engineers while fostering a culture of technical curiosity, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Identify and resolve complex technical challenges in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.

Experience & Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or 8+ years with a Master's degree.
• Proven experience operating at a Senior or Staff Engineer level, leading technical initiatives and influencing engineering direction across teams.
• Deep expertise in Kotlin and the modern Android ecosystem, including Jetpack libraries, Hilt, Coroutines, and Jetpack Compose.
• Strong experience architecting and supporting long-running Android applications, including background execution, foreground services, state restoration, process lifecycle management, battery optimization, and memory management.
• Experience building and supporting Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) applications in production environments.
• Strong understanding of modern APIs and communication protocols, including REST, GraphQL, MQTT, or comparable messaging technologies.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture ownership, design documentation, engineering mentorship, and cross-functional influence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing software in regulated environments such as medical devices, healthcare, automotive, aerospace, or financial technology.
• Familiarity with medical device software standards and cybersecurity frameworks, including IEC 62304, ISO 14971, FDA cybersecurity guidance, threat modeling, and software bill of materials (SBOM) practices.
• Experience implementing mobile security best practices, including Android Keystore, StrongBox, certificate pinning, mTLS, secure update strategies, and secure device communications.
• Experience managing dedicated or enterprise Android devices, including Android Enterprise, kiosk mode, device policy management, and enterprise firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) deployments.
• Exposure to iOS development, cross-platform mobile technologies, or broader mobile platform strategy.

Actual compensation may vary depending on job-related factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and work location.

Estimated Pay Range

$166,000.00 - $216,000.00
