Sr R&D Test Engineer

What's the role?

General Purpose

Sr. R&D Test Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing the testing activities within the Product Testing & Analytics team. This position requires a deep understanding of testing methodologies, automation frameworks and cross-functional collaboration. The Sr. R&D Test Engineer will be guiding the team through the testing lifecycle, implementing best practices, and ensuring the quality of in-scope tests. You should have a strong passion for technology and a strong customer-centric product sense. You should enjoy working outside your comfort zone and love exploring/learning new technologies.

Main Responsibilities

• Define and implement test strategies for HD map products, including content testing, GT assessment, and hybrid methodologies
• Identify testable conditions from specifications and translate them into scalable validation approaches aligned to SD/HD map requirements
• Design, develop, and execute test plans, test cases, and test data for regression, and product-level validation
• Develop and maintain automation-first testing frameworks and pipelines for large-scale content validation and regression
• Collaborate with Data Science teams to integrate metric-driven and machine learning–based validation signals
• Work closely with Engineering, Product, and Program teams to align validation scope with product priorities and release requirements
• Analyze test results, identify gaps, drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement in testing methodologies
• Ensure validation approaches reflect customer expectations, product behavior, and evolving architecture needs
• Support validation across data pipelines,, and geospatial systems including ingestion, transformation, and output verification
• Contribute to testing infrastructure, tooling, and automation enhancements
• Provide guidance and mentorship to team members and act as SME in HD testing approaches

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Python, including automation scripting, spatial libraries, and test workflows.
• Experience with SQL, data validation, and pipeline-based processing
• Experience building and maintaining automated test cases
• Understanding of SD/HD map specifications and geospatial data models
• Experience with HERE platform, Unimap lifecycle, HDLM viewer, VUMap Viewer, Earthscape, Gitlab, QGIS, PG Admin, Map creator & other HERE proprietary tools
• Exposure to data ingestion pipelines, JSON/XML data
• Experience applying geospatial ML and AI models for classification, anomaly detection, trend analysis, clustering is a strong plus.

You are a strong candidate for this role if you possess the following skills, competencies, and work experience.

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies
• Overall working experience of 7+ years as a test engineer/ database engineer
• Experience in E2E testing, good understanding of manual & automation testing.
• Hands on experience with tools like Jira, Confluence
• Proficient Knowledge of testing related metrics and standard practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient at handling multiple projects/priorities.
• Testing certifications like ISTQB would be a plus.
