AI Summary

Design and iterate on landing pages, onboarding flows, and paywalls to optimize the acquisition funnel. Partner with PMs and engineers to run data-driven experiments and improve conversion metrics.

About pdf.net

pdf.net is one of Variant Group’s bootstrapped SaaS products. It’s a fast-moving, fully remote team building tools like resume.co, contracts.net, and more. pdf.net is an online PDF editor used by thousands of people worldwide, and the company is now building a dedicated acquisition engine around it, from search intent and landing pages to onboarding and paywall moments. They’re looking for a conversion-obsessed product designer with a high visual bar who loves shipping fast, learning from data, and iterating until the funnel performs.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Design and iterate on landing pages, onboarding flows, and key funnel touchpoints (including paywall moments).

  • Take things end-to-end: map the journey, write and refine copy, and make sure the experience feels cohesive.

  • Turn fuzzy goals (“improve activation”, “increase paywall conversion”) into clear hypotheses and experiments that can ship quickly.

  • Partner with the acquisition PM and engineers to run fast loops: build, launch, learn, iterate.

  • Use data (Amplitude, A/B tests, funnel drop-offs, CPA, conversion) to prioritize what to test next and measure what changed.

  • Create variations for different channels and search intent clusters, and keep raising the bar on visual quality as you go.

  • Communicate clearly with the team: document edge cases, define states, and set engineering up to move quickly without losing craft.

  • Bring great references, good taste, and a practical “let’s ship it” mindset to help strengthen design culture.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Strong visual/UI craft and a high bar for layout and polish (Figma components, auto-layout, typography, spacing, all the details).

  • A conversion mindset: you care about what happens after something ships, and you’re excited by experiments and fast feedback loops.

  • Comfort owning work end-to-end, with high autonomy in a lightweight, async-friendly culture.

  • Solid product thinking: you can zoom out to the journey, then zoom in to the small decisions that change conversion.

  • Clear writing and communication. You’ll write copy, explain decisions, and keep cross-functional work unblocked.

  • Strong collaboration with PMs and engineers in a “ship → learn → iterate” environment.

  • Taste and restraint: you can make a simple UI feel premium through typography, layout, and interaction details.

  • A bias toward outcomes: you connect design decisions to funnel metrics and business results.

  • You use AI as a real speed tool (LLMs for thinking/research, fast prototyping, rather than long polish in Figma).

Huge Plus If You Have

  • “Builder” energy: prototyping and shipping (Webflow/Framer or similar).

  • A marketing/editing background with strong copy instincts.

  • Experience with lots of SEO-driven landing pages and constant iteration.

What You'll Win

  • A small, bootstrapped team building multiple SaaS products (resume.co, contracts.net, pdf.net, and others).

  • High ownership and real impact: you’ll directly influence conversion and revenue, and you’ll be able to see it in the numbers.

  • Remote-first, worldwide team with a lightweight culture (no micromanagement, no crunch, fewer meetings).

  • A dedicated acquisition context (PM + engineers), so your work doesn’t get stuck in long cycles or layers of approval.

  • A data-rich environment with fast feedback loops: Amplitude, A/B tests, and the ability to validate ideas with real user behavior.

  • Freedom to improve both UI and copy, and to bring your own process as long as it drives results.

  • Growth support: Variant Group covers learning expenses (courses, books, software, subscriptions, conferences).

  • Unlimited PTO, plus a team that genuinely values a sustainable pace and clear personal boundaries.

What's Great About This Role

This is a rare “growth + craft” role. You’re not designing isolated screens; you’re shaping the entire first impression of a product people discover through search, landing pages, and fast-moving funnels. The surface area is huge, the feedback loop is real, and the impact is measurable. Every iteration you ship can move conversion, retention, and revenue.

You’ll work in a lightweight, founder-led, bootstrapped environment that values autonomy over process, and you’ll collaborate closely with a PM and engineers who want to run experiments, learn quickly, and keep the bar high. If you love landing pages, onboarding, paywalls, and the thrill of seeing your work perform in the wild, while still caring deeply about visual quality, this role will feel like home.
