Sr. Global Mobility Tax Specialist (Minneapolis preferred, remote eligible)

The Global Mobility Tax Senior Specialist will be responsible for General Mills’ global mobility individual tax, compensation reporting, and finance processes, working with teammates and external providers in the U.S. and abroad to advise on mobility individual tax concepts, drive compliance and continuous improvement in the mobility program, and contribute to the overall mobility stakeholder experience.  The Global Mobility Tax Senior Specialist will serve as a subject matter specialist regarding global assignment individual tax projects and inquiries and will partner closely with finance, payroll, compensation, stock & deferred compensation, business contacts, the mobility team, and mobility vendors.  This role requires you to navigate the complexity of the U.S. and non-U.S. individual tax rules as they relate to General Mills’ global assignment population and emerging mobility needs for our business.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Serve as the mobility tax subject matter expert (SME)

• First point of consultation for mobility team, HR business partners, cross-functional groups, and assignees related to global assignment cost estimates, assignment planning, assignee questions, and business inquiries
• Oversight and application of the mobility tax programs and for the escalation of policy issues
• Provide individual tax guidance for cross-border remote work requests
• Conduct periodic benchmarking reviews of tax policy provisions
• Provide communications and education sessions for stakeholders
• Monitor individual tax law changes and determine any process changes needed and the cost impact to tax equalization costs
• Cultivate and foster strong working relationships with mobility team, finance, payroll, compensation, corporate tax, mobility vendors, assignees, business partners, and other stakeholders
• Manage escalations related to mobility tax matters

Provide mobility tax process oversight, ensure compliance, regular reporting, and identify improvements

• Tax equalization collection and payments  
• End-to-end payment, invoice, and gross-up processes for global and domestic mobility
• Shadow payroll arrangements
• Secondment agreements
• Social security agreements
• Annual compensation, hypothetical tax, and social tax adjustment review
• Review of annual equity vesting for mobile population
• Identify and support new and existing technology platforms in the preparation of cost estimates, assignment packages, and orientation for potential assignees

Vendor partnership

• Oversee vendor management and maintain vendor relationships to ensure compliance and delivery of services to aiming-higher standards
• Review authorization lists for assignees eligible for tax provider services
• Review vendor hypothetical tax tables and tax model assumptions included and identify adjustments and/or improved assignee communication, where needed
• Final review of vendor tax invoices and out-of-scope fees
• Annual review and sign-off of company tax positions with vendor
• Participate in vendor reviews and proposals

Case Management

• Case manage an assigned population of global assignments, including stakeholder management with employee and business partners and full coordination of relocation, immigration, tax, travel, payroll, finance, corporate tax, compensation, benefits, and vendor services

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related degree fields with 5+ years of mobility tax experience
• Strong technical knowledge of expatriate tax concepts along with practical tax experience with cross-border assignments
• General understanding of international individual tax regimes and ability to independently conduct research and interpret individual tax systems
• Familiarity with international assignment tax policy mechanics and computations, interpretation of such policies, and communication of policy aspects to assignees and stakeholders
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong customer service orientation with excellent written & verbal communication skills
• Strong multi-tasker with the ability to handle and prioritize multiple work assignments
• Self-motivated, works with minimal supervision, and is capable of working under time constraints and deadlines
• Extensive consultative experience.  Ability to provide clear recommendations and solutions for complex mobility individual tax inquiries, challenges, and emerging needs.
• Comfortable engaging with senior executives
• Excellent computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite
• Solid project management skills
• Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to use sound judgement to drive complex issues to resolution and influence others to achieve results
• Experience with mobility tax software solutions (Ex. AssignmentPro (Equus Platform)
• Adaptable and flexible, with the ability to work globally across cultures and with differing time zones when needed
• Willingness to travel (less than 10%)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Previous in-house mobility tax experience for multinational corporations
• CPA
• Big 4 experience
• Experience advising on mobility tax approaches specifically in the United States, Switzerland, UK, France, Singapore, Brazil, Canada , and India
• Experience in the consumer foods industry

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS

• This role is a remote-eligible role with a preference for a candidate who is in Minneapolis and would be willing to come onsite in Golden Valley, MN.
• International relocation or international remote working arrangements (outside of the US) will not be considered.
