Sr. Director, Genentech Patient Foundation Program Delivery and Operational Excellenc

The Position

This role is an essential part of our Public Affairs & Access (PAA) organization, specifically within the Genentech Patient Foundation (GPF). PAA is dedicated to delivering impact through a fully integrated public affairs function that leverages our capabilities and world-class brand to ensure eligible patients gain access to life-saving medicines. As a member of this GPF team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in Patient Experience (PX) Delivery and Strategy, Corporate Communications, Policy, External Affairs, Legal & Compliance and Genentech field teams to create a seamless, best-in-class patient support experience.

The Opportunity 

As the Senior Director, Genentech Patient Foundation Program Delivery and Operational Excellence Leader, you will serve as a strategic leader accountable for the overarching direction, mid-term strategy, and nationwide operational execution of GPF programs. In this role, you exercise a high degree of decision-making authority to ensure frontline support services seamlessly enable product access and drug delivery for eligible patients while strictly safeguarding the Foundation’s independent, 501(c)(3) charitable status. Key responsibilities include:

• GPF Strategic Operations & Board Engagement: Set mid-term strategies and nationwide operational plans for GPF patient support programs, driving cross-portfolio standardization across therapeutic areas and leading GPF Board of Directors workstreams alongside the Head of GPF.
• Frontline & Distribution Team Leadership: Lead a large location-distributed team of frontline staff across the country (through a layer of Team Leads)as well as the Lead of a small team that manages all GPF medicinal product shipping and distribution.
• Operational Excellence & Compliance: Lead strategic realignments of processes, SOPs, and systems to maximize efficiency, streamline workflows between GPF and the Donor organization, and ensure strict alignment with evolving compliance standards and Foundation independence.
• Complex Case Governance & Escalations: Address highly complex patient cases, exception requests, and systemic escalation issues, developing structural solutions and risk mitigation strategies alongside Legal, Compliance, and other partners.
• Inventory & Distribution Standards: Oversee the team managing high-volume, high-value charitable medicinal product inventory, ensuring shipping and distribution workflows meet all pharmaceutical handling regulations and performance standards.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence: Serve as a key member of the GPF senior leadership team, representing GPF priorities to cross-functional leaders across Genentech.

Who You Are

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., business, finance, healthcare management, public policy) or equivalent experience. 
• Industry Experience: 12+ years of professional industry experience in healthcare/healthcare reimbursement, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related field(analytics, operations management, business, finance, etc.), with a strong focus on patient access, foundation management, or support services and with experience utilizing data and technology to improve patient outcomes..
• Distributed Team Leadership: 5+ years of direct people management experience, including leading teams through change. Preferably, proven success directly leading large, geographically distributed teams and preferably through layers
• Strategic & Operational Planning: Demonstrated expertise in planning, prioritizing, setting mid-term strategies, driving process improvements, managing complex workflows, and converting executive decisions into team execution.
• Executive Communication & Influence: Exceptional leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with a track record of partnering with senior leaders.
• Governance, Compliance & Charitable Status: Preferably, deep knowledge of healthcare compliance, pharmaceutical regulations, and/or working with or supporting a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation or patient assistance program within the biopharmaceutical space.
• Travel Requirement: Willingness and ability to travel up to 30% to Genentech's home office in South San Francisco and other locations across the country as required.

Preferred Experience

• Advanced degree (Master's, MBA, relevant PhD, or JD).
• Direct experience working with or supporting a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation or patient assistance program within the biopharmaceutical space.
• Deep expertise in pharmaceutical supply chain, inventory management, or drug distribution regulations.

• Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.
• This role is remote-based anywhere in the United States, with up to 30% travel as indicated above.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $179,800 - $384,000. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed in this link.
