About our position
The Software Quality Assurance Engineer (SQAE) tests the work of one or more product specifications at a time, attached to the specification rather than embedded in a single team. Working within the quality function, the SQAE helps shape testable acceptance criteria during refinement, writes and executes the test plan for the specifications they own, and performs the manual and automated testing that confirms a change is correct before it ships. Reducing the defects that escape into production, quarter over quarter, is the shared measure of success for the role and the department.

What you’ll be doing

  • Testing the specifications you are assigned. Serving as a quality owner for one or more specifications at a time, attached to the spec rather than to a single team, and carrying testing from refinement through validation.
  • Shaping acceptance criteria for testability. Joining product, developers, architects, and designers during refinement to clarify requirements, make acceptance criteria genuinely testable, and surfacing quality risks before build begins.
  • Writing and executing the test plan. Author the test plan against the acceptance criteria for the specs you own, before build starts, and keep it current as the build teaches you more.
  • Automating where it pays off. Designing, building, and maintaining automated UI and API tests using standard tools and the shared automation framework the Test Automation team maintains, so coverage grows without duplicating effort across teams.
  • Testing what automation cannot. Performing exploratory, regression, and functional testing where automation is not feasible or not yet built, validating new features and fixes thoroughly.
  • Owning defects to resolution. Identifying, documenting, and tracking defects on the work item, and partnering with developers to see them fixed, keeping the full history where the work lives.
  • Driving escaped defects down. Treating every defect that reaches a customer as a signal, contributing to root-cause analysis, and helping convert findings into upstream prevention rather than downstream inspection.
  • Supporting the release-readiness decision. Providing the coverage, defect status, and risk picture the quality function relies on to make an independent release call and supporting the regression and release-readiness gate.
  • Performing other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

What we want you to have

  • BS/BA in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in software quality assurance or testing, preferably on enterprise-level applications.
  • Proficiency using automated UI test tools such as Selenium, Playwright, or Cypress, with some scripting ability for test automation and room to grow.
  • Experience with Postman, REST Assured, or similar tools for validating backend services.
  • Strong experience writing test plans and test cases and validating new features and fixes.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests into build processes.
  • Skilled in manual and exploratory testing techniques to uncover edge cases and ensure product stability.
  • Experience with Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, and Git.
  • Good SQL and relational database knowledge, preferably Azure SQL.
  • Practical experience in an Agile environment using team-level Scrum, comfortable in a model where the dedicated Scrum Master role is retired and team facilitation sits with player/coach engineering managers.
  • Detail oriented and organized, with strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work independently and as a team player, and comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
