AI Summary

Design and develop the core infrastructure for an internal AI Software Factory that enables autonomous agents to collaborate on complex engineering tasks. Build secure, scalable runtimes and orchestration systems to manage agent lifecycles, state, and interactions with internal and external tools.

Signicat is a pan-European digital identity company that makes it easy and safe for organisations to know who they are interacting with online. Using our proprietary technology, we help companies and public organisations securely verify the identities of people and businesses, authenticate users, and enable compliant electronic document signing, so their customers can access services and complete online processes with confidence.

Today, Signicat employs over 530 people across 20 offices in 15 European countries. We work with leading banks, fintechs, telcos, public authorities, healthcare providers, and enterprises across retail and mobility to deliver trusted digital identity and onboarding solutions at scale. Joining Signicat means contributing to a mission that has a real impact on how society works and trusting each other in an increasingly digital world.

About the Role

Imagine a software development environment where AI agents can collaborate, plan complex tasks, write code, run tests, and help engineers turn ideas into working software. That's what we're building.

As a Platform Engineer in Signicat's AI Foundations team, you'll help design and build our internal AI Software Factory: a platform that enables teams of autonomous AI agents to work together, interact securely with our systems, and accelerate how we build software.

This isn't just about integrating LLM APIs. We're building the foundations for agent-driven software engineering, tackling challenges around orchestration, distributed execution, state management, sandboxing, security, and human-agent collaboration.

Our platform runs on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes, with Go as our primary programming language.

You'll join a team exploring the boundaries of what's possible with AI agents, combining experimentation with solid software engineering principles to turn ambitious ideas into reliable, production-ready systems.

How You'll Make An Impact
  • Build the AI Software Factory: Design and develop the core services, APIs, and infrastructure that enable AI agents to plan, execute, and collaborate on complex software engineering tasks.

  • Orchestrate intelligent agents: Build systems that coordinate multiple specialized agents, manage dependencies, schedule work, and support long-running, asynchronous workflows.

  • Design reliable agent runtimes: Develop secure, stateful execution environments that manage agent lifecycles, context, tool invocations, retries, recovery, and execution isolation.

  • Make autonomous execution safe: Implement sandboxing, fine-grained permissions, and security boundaries that allow agents to interact with code, tools, and internal systems without compromising security.

  • Connect agents to the real world: Integrate LLMs, development workflows, internal APIs, and external tools through secure, extensible interfaces and emerging standards such as MCP and A2A.

  • Enable human-agent collaboration: Help create systems where engineers can guide, supervise, and collaborate with autonomous agents, maintaining control over important decisions.

  • Shape the future of AI engineering: Evaluate emerging technologies, challenge existing approaches, experiment with new architectural patterns, and help define how autonomous software engineering evolves at Signicat.

  • Solve interesting engineering problems: Apply your understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, fault tolerance, and software architecture to challenges that don't always have established solutions.

Why We'll Love You
  • You have strong software engineering experience, ideally with Go, and enjoy building robust backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.

  • You're comfortable working with Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native infrastructure, ideally on Google Cloud Platform.

  • You think beyond individual services and understand how to design systems that handle concurrency, failures, asynchronous execution, and complex state transitions.

  • You care about clean architecture, well-designed APIs, maintainable code, and automated testing.

  • You understand the importance of security, particularly around authentication, authorization, isolation, and executing untrusted workloads.

  • You're curious about LLMs and autonomous agents, including concepts such as tool calling, context management, multi-agent collaboration, and agent orchestration.

  • You enjoy exploring emerging technologies, experimenting with new approaches, and turning promising ideas into practical solutions.

  • You're comfortable navigating ambiguity, taking ownership of challenging technical problems, and helping shape architectural decisions.

  • You enjoy sharing knowledge, collaborating with others, and challenging assumptions to find better solutions.

Bonus Points
  • You've built systems using agent frameworks such as Google ADK, or worked with protocols like MCP or A2A.

  • You have experience with sandboxing or workload isolation technologies such as gVisor, WebAssembly, or container-based execution environments.

  • You've worked with event-driven architectures, workflow engines, distributed schedulers, or systems supporting long-running processes.

  • You've experimented with AI coding agents, autonomous development workflows, or multi-agent systems.

  • You have experience designing secure integrations with external services, including OAuth and delegated authorization.

  • You've explored graph-based architectures, RDF, SPARQL, or event-driven systems, and are excited about using these concepts to model complex relationships, agent workflows, and dynamic, reactive applications.

This is a wish list, not a checklist. You don't need to have worked with every technology or built AI agents before. If you're a strong engineer who loves solving complex problems and is excited about shaping the future of AI-driven software development, we'd love to hear from you.
