The Opportunity
Dealstack is on a mission to power private equity. Today, there is no purpose-built tech in place to power the world of private equity. Dealmaking is manual, chaotic and backward. Dealstack is a SaaS platform that puts an end to these outdated practices, setting a new collaboration standard in the industry. Dealstack is built by PE, for PE. Founded by experienced professionals from within the industry, our products sit at the intersection of SaaS, fintech and legaltech.
Dealstack has an ambitious, multi-product roadmap. The first product went live in 2023. It allows private equity professionals to easily onboard and maintain investment programs. Following strong commercial traction from leading industry players, we are looking for ambitious individuals, with proven software engineering skills and experience working for a high growth software company to support our Tech Team. The role presents an exciting opportunity to build and deliver innovation to a fast-moving industry.
Who you are
- 4+ years of commercial experience as a Full stack developer with Backend specialization
- Based in Sofia, Bulgaria, working remotely with 6 hours of overlap with UK time zone business hours
- Interested in working with fresh tech stack and being part of an independent team
- Interested in solving real engineering problems, with a process that exists to help us ship safely rather than for its own sake
- Interested in fintech and SaaS, ideally private equity
- Works cleanly with a value of writing collaborative code first
- Opinionated and passionate. We like people who have strong opinions about their work
- Uses AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code) as part of everyday work, and reviews their output as critically as a colleague's
What job involves
- You will be joining the development team with experienced people helping to choose the best business-tech solution providing unique experience to ship new features both on FE and BE
- You will be shipping new features while maintaining high standards in code quality
- You will work in a small team where we focus on quality over quantity and excellence over speed
- You will have a voice to work with other senior developers on technical choices. We run a meritocracy where all can be heard and the best ideas win out
- You will work on graph problems and visualization (ownership structures and cap charts), instrument and vesting calculations, and document workflows from generation to e-signing
- Building component-based UIs in React (Mantine, TanStack Query, react-hook-form) and backend services in Node.js and NestJS
- Working across a typed API boundary: REST endpoints described with OpenAPI, with generated TypeScript clients on the frontend
- Building long-running and bulk processes, such as bulk signing and document generation, on Temporal workflows
- Working on fine-grained authorization (OpenFGA) and multi-tenant data scoping, where correctness and security matter as much as features
- Working with team where there is a healthy balance between speed & perfect quality. Stability is our primary goal but also in terms of maintainability
Desirable skills
Skills we are looking for- Solid knowledge and experience using Node.js & React.js – these are our main and only FE & BE frameworks
- Strong TypeScript – we use it at a sophisticated level, with a strict type system and no unsafe casts
- Strong PostgreSQL: data modelling, query design and indexing, and comfort with SQL beyond what an ORM generates (functions, views, triggers)
- Understanding of ORM and repository pattern (i.e. PrismaORM)
- Experience writing tests with Jest and Playwright
- Understanding of server state and client state in React.js (TanStack Query, Redux)
- Experience or at least understanding of work at the product-based company
- Having engineer mindset, ability to understand problems without going too deep in terms of low level
- Comfortable with working in a team environment, e.g. pair programming
- Very strong communication, influencing and presentation skills, with a deep sense of personal excellence and accountability
- Positive, mature approach to problem solving
- Team player with a desire and ability to function in a fun, flexible, changing environment
- Speak very good English (on daily basis)
Nice to have- A working knowledge of statistics, particularly experimental design and inference (for example from a quantitative degree or hands-on ML work), applied to measuring and improving the accuracy of AI-driven features in the product
- DevOps experience valued - Docker, Kubernetes (Helm on AWS EKS), AWS services such as RDS, and CI pipelines in GitHub Actions
- Experience with Temporal or another durable workflow engine
- Experience with authorization systems such as OpenFGA or other Zanzibar-style models
- Experience in fintech or a regulated environment (ISO 27001, SOC 2)
- Hands-on infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform on AWS (RDS, EKS, S3, SQS, IAM), including keeping state in line with what is actually running and keeping cloud spend in check
Why us?
How we work- A weekly release train, moving towards continuous delivery from main
- Every pull request gets its own review environment, where QA and product accept the change before it merges
- Developers own quality: clear testing notes, impacted areas, edge cases and seed data, backed by unit, integration and Playwright end-to-end tests
- AI-assisted development is part of the workflow: the codebase is set up for AI coding assistants, and we expect engineers to use them well
- "Agile" but not SCRUM. We believe that tools are to help us rather than blindly follow them
- Time to plan and think before implementation. We believe delivering proper software is not only coding but also thinking about how to do it
About us
Dealstack is on a mission to power private equity
Dealstack was founded by experienced private equity practitioners with the goal of ending the outdated deal administration practices that have plagued the industry since its inception. Manual and repetitive, these practices remain very time-consuming, costly, and error prone. We know how frustrating they can be. Yet, while we cannot remove the need for these tasks to be completed, we can equip professionals with better tools.
The design of Dealstack is fully focused on helping our old selves work faster, smoother and feel better. By engineering away the burden of deal administration, we can give way to what matters most, creating value. We want Dealstack to become a central part of the dealmaking toolkit – just as obvious as Word, Excel or PowerPoint might feel today – only 100x better!
We recognise that changing old habits can be difficult. Our aim is not to change what works and take away that precious feeling of control. We want to enhance, not replace. Evolve, not revolutionise. We know that peace of mind is central to our users. To that end, we have built Dealstack with best-in-class security, service, and user experience as our core guiding principles.
