Senior Shopify Plus Developer [Contractor/Temporary]

We are looking for an experienced Senior Shopify Plus Developer to help build and scale modern enterprise ecommerce experiences on Shopify's native platform. This role will focus on developing high-performance storefronts, custom commerce logic, and platform integrations using Shopify's full extensibility stack, including Online Store 2.0 themes, Shopify Functions, Checkout UI Extensions, Customer Account Extensions, and custom apps.

You will work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to build scalable storefront experiences, integrate enterprise systems, and help shape technical solutions that support complex commerce ecosystems.

The ideal candidate brings deep Shopify Plus expertise, strong engineering fundamentals across Liquid, JavaScript, and TypeScript, and a passion for pushing Shopify's native platform to support enterprise-grade commerce.

Your Impact:

• Build and maintain custom Shopify Plus storefronts using Online Store 2.0 themes, Liquid, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
• Develop custom commerce experiences across product discovery, product detail pages, cart, checkout, customer accounts, and post-purchase experiences.
• Build custom commerce functionality using Shopify Functions for discounts, shipping, payment, and validation customizations.
• Develop Checkout UI Extensions, Customer Account UI Extensions, and post-purchase extensions using Shopify's modern extensibility frameworks.
• Model and consume structured commerce content using Shopify metaobjects and metafields to power dynamic merchandising, content blocks, and product data within Online Store 2.0 themes.
• Build and maintain custom Shopify apps using Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL, Webhooks, and Shopify Flow.
• Integrate Shopify with enterprise systems including payments, fulfillment, inventory, pricing, OMS, CRM, and product information platforms.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, and Engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Optimize storefront performance, theme architecture, Core Web Vitals, and mobile experiences.
• Support automated testing including unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage using Playwright or equivalent, alongside deployments, troubleshooting, production support, and continuous platform improvements.
• Use AI-assisted development tooling (Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) as part of day-to-day engineering workflow to accelerate delivery, testing, and documentation.
• Stay current on emerging Shopify capabilities, extensibility frameworks, and modern development best practices.

Your skills and Experience: 

• 5+ years of ecommerce development experience with strong hands-on experience building solutions on Shopify Plus.
• Deep expertise in Liquid, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, with strong frontend engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on production experience with Shopify Functions, Checkout UI Extensions, and Customer Account Extensions.
• Strong experience with Shopify APIs including Admin API, Storefront API, GraphQL, Webhooks, and custom app development.
• Working knowledge of Shopify backend concepts including metaobjects, metafields, and Markets in support of theme and extension development.
• Strong understanding of ecommerce fundamentals including catalog management, cart and checkout, payments, promotions, fulfillment, and order lifecycle management.
• Experience integrating Shopify with third-party systems such as ERP, OMS, PIM, payment providers, or fulfillment platforms.
• Strong understanding of theme architecture, modern web performance optimization, and frontend engineering best practices.
• Experience working within Agile product development environments.

• Experience supporting Shopify B2B implementations including company accounts, catalogs, and payment terms.
• Experience with Shopify Flow, event-driven architecture, and middleware orchestration.
• Experience with platforms such as Datadog, Sentry, or similar observability and developer tooling.
• Experience supporting WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility in production Shopify themes and storefronts.
• Experience working on enterprise-scale commerce implementations with complex system integrations.
• Experience supporting platform migrations to Shopify Plus from SFCC, Hybris, Magento, or similar.
• Shopify certifications preferred.
