Job Summary: 

The Senior Inside Plant (ISP) Project Manager is responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of mission-critical data center infrastructure projects. This role oversees the full lifecycle of inside plant deployments, including structured cabling, fiber optic systems, cable tray installation, equipment integration, network infrastructure, commissioning support, and customer handoff activities.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience managing complex data center projects in active mission-critical environments and has a proven track record delivering projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Manage multiple concurrent data center ISP projects ranging from single-site deployments to large-scale hyperscale campus programs. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders. 
  • Develop project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resource forecasts, and risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Lead project kickoff meetings, progress reviews, and executive-level status updates. 

     


Construction & Installation Oversight

  • Direct the installation of: 
  • Structured cabling systems 
  • Fiber optic backbone and distribution networks 
  • Cable tray and pathway infrastructure 
  • Network and telecom equipment 
  • Rack-and-stack deployments 
  • Data center technology integration projects 
  • Coordinate closely with general contractors, MEP contractors, commissioning teams, and owner representatives. 
  • Ensure all work complies with customer standards, industry best practices, and safety requirements. 


Financial Management

  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost controls. 
  • Monitor labor productivity and project profitability. 
  • Review and approve subcontractor invoices, change orders, and purchase requests. 
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency. 


Customer Relationship Management

  • Build trusted relationships with hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, general contractor, and carrier customers. 
  • Manage customer expectations and proactively resolve project issues. 
  • Identify and support opportunities for additional services and project expansion. 


Team Leadership

  • Lead field supervisors, site managers, project coordinators, and subcontractor teams. 
  • Mentor junior project managers and support professional development initiatives. 
  • Drive accountability for project performance, quality, and safety. 


Quality & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and customer site requirements. 
  • Support job hazard analyses, safety audits, and incident investigations. 
  • Maintain rigorous quality control processes and project documentation. 
  • Oversee testing, commissioning support, and project closeout activities. 


Managerial Responsibility

 

  • This role has no direct reports.


Travel/Shift Requirements

  • Up to 50-75% travel depending on project assignments. 
  • Ability to consistently visit active construction sites, data centers, customer facilities, and project offices throughout North America. 

 

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout office environments, customer facilities, active construction sites, and operational data centers.
  • Frequently required to walk extended distances across large data center campuses, construction sites, and multi-floor facilities.
  • May be required to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and access platforms to inspect work areas, cable pathways, equipment installations, and infrastructure components.
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in confined spaces while conducting site inspections and project assessments.
  • Must be able to visually inspect installation quality, construction progress, safety conditions, documentation, and technical equipment.
  • Must possess the ability to distinguish colors when reviewing cabling, fiber optic infrastructure, labeling systems, and project documentation.
  • Frequently required to use a computer, keyboard, mobile device, and other standard office equipment for extended periods.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through virtual meeting platforms.
  • May occasionally be required to lift, carry, push, or pull materials, equipment, tools, or project documentation weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, hearing protection, and safety footwear when visiting construction or customer sites.
  • Must be able to work safely in environments with varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and other conditions commonly found on active construction sites and within operational data centers.
  • Must be able to travel extensively by automobile and commercial aircraft, including overnight travel, and maintain the ability to access customer locations throughout North America.

     


Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a combination of office settings, customer facilities, active construction sites, and mission-critical data center environments. 
  • Exposure to construction-related hazards, energized equipment areas, elevated work locations, and operational data center environments may occur. 
  • Position requires frequent travel and the flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and off-shift work, as needed to support customer schedules, maintenance windows, project milestones, and emergency situations.

Education and Experience Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and relevant industry experience will be considered.
  • 10+ years of project management experience in data center, telecommunications, mission-critical, or low-voltage infrastructure environments. 
  • 7+ years managing Inside Plant (ISP) deployments within active data centers. 
  • Proven experience delivering projects exceeding $1M in value. 
  • Strong understanding of: 
    • Structured cabling systems 
    • Fiber optic infrastructure 
    • Network architecture fundamentals 
    • Data center construction methodologies 
    • Mission-critical operating environments 
    • Experience managing subcontractors and cross-functional project teams. 
    • Strong financial and contract management skills. 
    • Excellent communication and customer-facing presentation abilities. 

       

       

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications, Business Management, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale customers such as Meta, Microsoft, Google, or Amazon Web Services. 

     

  • PMP, CAPM, RCDD, DCDC, OSHA, or other industry certifications.

     

  • Experience with Smartsheet, Primavera P6, or Microsoft Project. 
  • Knowledge of commissioning and turnover processes. 
  • Experience in live operational environments requires strict change management procedures.
